CPH Web Fest's 2021 Award Ceremony.
The past three days were a whilrwind of new responsibilities, brainstormings for new national projects and deliberations for inspiring awards (that help to foster change) that sharing news with you as to what's going on at the Tokyo and Copenhagen Film Festivals were put to a halt. But now that I have a few hours to spend before our remote satellite shoots at 1pm, let me share about this wonderful experience with Copenhagen Web Fest's Global Webseries Hangout.
Our film's cinematographer Aaron Dave Escobido and yours truly (our other collaborator Kyle Fermindoza couldn't make it) attended this global hangout. It's basically the equivalent of that chitchat drinking or eating session after film screenings in pre-pandemic live festivals wherein you exchange ideas, share news from your country's industry and just laugh your hearts out on anything you wanna talk about. It was 3AM in Manila (also in Iloilo where Aaron is) and I told him that because it was my ninth schedule for the day, I might skip this and he would just represent us. But I was excited for this having attended three seminars in the same festival. So I stayed up late and I'm glad I did.
Conversations were moderated (informally) by Regina and Joseph of the Copenhagen Web Fest, throwing us questions we'd discuss during chilltime. It was fun. Regina mentioned that they were a "small festival" and to me intimate "small festivals" have a huge cool factor. As someone who started as an underground experimental filmmaker (and someone who has ran "smaller festivals"), I was no stranger to initimate festivals and I can say that the spirit and vibe of these festivals are infectious. I have attended a lot of these intimate festivals (they're not small, trust me) and I enjoyed everyone of them (Antimatter in Victoria, BC; Badahari in Indonesia; Cine Katipunan Screenings & Pelikultura in The Philippines; etc).
Except for warm bodies not present in one physical room, we felt that Copenhagen Web Fest's Gloval Webseries Hangout was one that connected all of us in many ways. Listening to each other's stories, new projects and web series favorites was just one very memorable experience for 2021. Getting to watch their films during the festival run was fun but meeting the filmmakers and other web fest festival directors and having this exchange made our day.
Thank you Regina, Joseph, Martin and the Copenhagen Web Fest team! Here's a toast to all of you and the selected filmmakers this year! (I did raise my glass of Pulot Gata Mead during this session and showed them the bottle of this home-made Filipino brand that I love.)

This talk will revolve around 'diversity initiatives' and policy frameworks at European film, and more broadly, art institutions, and aims to provide new ideas, questions and critical thinking: How effective are those initiatives, who do they potentially miss, and what are the broader effects on society?
Speakers:
LIISA HOLMBERG, film commissioner at the International Sรกmi Film Institute (ISFI) in Norway. She is a Sรกmi film maker originally from the Finnish side of the Saamiland. She has worked in the film business as a producer, production manager and film consultant since 1994. A big part of her work as a film commissioner is working internationally with Indigenous film makers in Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Sรกpmi and Russia and has recently established the Arctic Indigenous Film Fund (AIFF). Holmberg is a member of European Film Academy from the year 2018.
JAN-THERESE MENDES, postdoctoral fellow in studies of gender and race with the Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Stavanger, Norway. Her research examines Northern welfare states' penal fixation on the Black womb, Black mournability, pedagogies of assimilation, and the possibilities of willful strangeness in Black visual and performance art.
CLIVE NWONKA, lecturer in Film, Culture and Society at the University of London's Institute of Advanced Studies. Nwonkaโs research centres on the study of Black British and African American film, with a particular focus on the images of Black urbanity and the modes through which Black identities are shaped by representations of social environments, architecture, social anxieties and the hegemony of neoliberalism within forms of Black popular culture.

Nadissa Haynes-Pedersen was last yearโs pitch day winner and now we welcome her to our official jury for 2021๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐๐
Nadissa Haynes-Pedersen is a film director from Trinidad and Tobago who now resides in Denmark. She has a diploma in directing from the New York Film Academy and a bachelorโs degree in film production from the The University of the West Indies, Mona. Before moving to Denmark, Nadissa wrote and directed 7 short films, 2 of which were screened at the Trinidad+Tobago Film Festival and one airing on television throughout the Caribbean. She has also directed a few music videos and worked in television in Trinidad and Tobago after earning her bachelorโs degree.
Since moving to Denmark, Nadissa has written, directed and produced a short documentary called โDet Tynde รlโ, which aired on TV2 Nord in 2018. Nadissa is passionate about telling stories that are not often told, as well as stories that speak to the human experience. She is also passionate about developing an active film environment in North Jutland and in 2020 she and other film professionals in North Jutland officially created Aalborg Filmvรฆrksted. She is currently the chairwoman for Aalborg Filmvรฆrksted and continues to find ways to support film talent in North Jutland.
2020 was also the year Nadissa won best pitch at the Copenhagen Web Fest Film Festival. Now at age 40, Nadissa is continuing to work towards contributing to the film industry in Denmark, by creating projects that support the cultural diversity that exists in Denmark.
