Amazing news, our short film 'Hey Brainy Man' won The NZIFF Patrons Award for Best Short Film at the NZ International Film Festival.

The six finalist short films for NZ's Best 2023 were chosen by guest selector, Niki Caro with a three-member jury, film critic Tom Augustine, film editor Peter Roberts, and 2021 Best Short Film Award joint winner filmmaker Josephine Stewart-Te Whiu selecting the winner.

The judges remarks were:
“Formally daring, bitterly humorous, and dreamily unsettling, Hey Brainy Man is a heady alchemical mix of absurdist flourishes and clearheaded warnings about humankind’s hubris. Backed by an endearingly batty chorus of Neanderthals, directors Randerson and Taylor are clear in their messaging, sounding the alarm without ever succumbing to overt or obvious preachiness. The film’s final note is one of dread soaked foreboding, lingering in the mind long after its subjects have faded into the ether"

We headed up to Otaki for the Māoriland Film Festival, one of my fav film festivals and the largest indigenous film festivals in the world.

We had our films ‘Star Sailors’ and ‘Who Sneezed’ show for the first time in the rangatahi (kids) section (and it was my first time Directing an animated film😁), we also did a Q&A hosted by the local kids which was ADORABLE!!! 🥰

Such a fun festival and such an awesome experience. Thanks to Kels & David from .kids for bringing me on as director, and to our awesome talented cast/crew. Bring on more cool projects together 🎬 - Jaimee
