Sistas! In need of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love? We are! Come join us and our friends December 13th - 24th as we pray and press our way to the celebration of Jesus Christ’s incarnation during our Advent Morning Prayer Series.

Advent is celebrated by Believers all over the world yearning for Christ’s second coming as they make spiritual preparation for Christmas, the celebration of Jesus’ holy birth. No matter the real sorrow in our hearts, confusion in the world, and weight of disbelief, God is with us. Jesus is the light of the world and Advent reminds us even in the darkest hour of night, Joy has and will come in the morning.

“The Light Shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:5

This event will take place exclusively in the Facebook Discipleship Group!

As we sit down to feast and gather with family today, let us not forget the true history of this country. We honor the presence and power of our Indigenous neighbors. Their stories, tradition, and history are never to be forgotten.

Let us never forget that Indigenous people were here and they are still here. This land is NOT our land.

- In September, a Pennsylvania Historical Marker was installed outside of Hakim’s Bookstore, one of the oldest operating Black-owned bookstores in the nation. Hakim’s Bookstore and Gift Shop was founded in 1959 and has served as an important gathering place for Black activists, intellectuals, and information-seekers for more than six decades.

In Today - On Tuesday, advisers to the Food and Drug Administration will review a gene therapy for the sickle cell, which in the U.S. mostly affects Black people. The only cure for the disease today is a bone marrow transplant. If approved by the FDA, it would be the first gene therapy on the U.S. market based on CRISPR, the gene editing tool that won its inventors the Nobel Prize in 2020.

Sistas, what do you think of this news?

The Food and Drug Administration is proposing a ban on using the chemical formaldehyde as an ingredient in hair relaxers, citing its link to cancer and other long-term adverse health effects.

The new rule proposed by the federal agency would ban relaxers and go into effect April 2024.

The proposed rule takes a large step in raising awareness about the potential harm that formaldehyde creates for the many Black women who typically use popular straightening products, including many kinds of chemical relaxers, Brazilian blowouts and keratin treatments.

It’s been a while since Truth’s Table has done a live event, so it was fitting for our first live recording to take place at the National Museum of African-American Music in Nashville, TN. In this episode, Ekemini and Christina sit down at the table with Dr. Rashawn Ray and Aloe Blacc at the event, “AIR Equity Initiative Pathways to Peace: Reimagining the Future of Public Safety for Youth and Communities.”

We discuss racial equity, activism, and the need to dismantle systemic barriers so that Black children can thrive and dream. We also sat down with Dr. Terrance McNeil and Dr. Melissa Collins to discuss school safety from elementary school to the college classroom.
