FINALLY I HAVE BEEN MONETIZED...
For a long time, Zambian artists have been financially disadvantaged because Zambia is not on the list of qualifying countries for Facebook, Instagram and YouTube monetization. There is no known reason why only South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya are among the few eligible African countries. My wild guess is population size.
My fellow Zambian artists know how long we have fought this battle. Needless to say, we have been trying to get our social platforms monetized for a very long time.
Yesterday, I received the good news that my social media platforms are now monetized. This good news comes barely two months after I was selected by Meta to be among the first few brands in the world to own a WhatsApp channel. For me, there is a lesson in all this. The lesson here is, we must be so impactful that even when we are in a location that is not easily recognizable to the rest of the world, our impact should still be felt so much that it can earn us the eligibility we require. I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who follows me as this would not have been possible without your support.
Dear young African king, You are qualified right where you are. Today as I type this, the roll-out for WhatsApp Channels has commenced and several other Zambian brands are now using WhatsApp channels. That's one door opened for Zambia. In fact, even non-celebrities can open a channel now. I believe a time is coming in the not-so-distant future when more Zambian artists will equally be eligible for monetization in order for them to get paid for the content they share on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
