I don’t show a lot of camera gear here, I usually do that over at .photo

But thought I’d share the latest lens I’ve had to review, I think it will interest you due to its relatively small size for such a wide lens, its so hard to carry camera gear on the bike.
au loaned me the latest Laowa 10mm f2.8 FF auto focus lens before it’s release here in Australia. I’ve had a chance to shoot nightscapes with it but I also took it to the Cannonball MTB festival for a test of its auto focus (swipe to see some pics).

So far I’ve been impressed by its performance and you can see the full review over at www.nightscapephotographer.com or the link in my bio.

Would you guys be interested in seeing more about the camera gear I use and more pics from the MTB events I shoot? Let us know in the comments, cheers

Have been asked a lot of questions about this new lens from Laowa. I will have a full review out on www.nightscapephotographer.com in the next week or so that will answer these questions. In the meantime feel free to ask questions in the comments or shoot me a pm and I’ll do my best to get to them.

Meant to share this. It was a tight fit but managed to squeeze my Roscoe and all the gear I needed for a few weeks bike packing in a box, just. Was a real squeeze and weighed in at 29kg, thanks for the box.

Was a lot of work to get to this spot on the Paparoa Track. I started at Greymouth in the morning and got to this point somewhere mid afternoon on my way to Moonlit Tops Hut.

The Paparoa is a must if riding New Zealand’s South Island’s West Coast.

At the top of just about to ride the section in my previous pic.

Good looking young bloke right? Well not so young, I turned 46 last week…

What amazed me on this ride that was also pretty inspiring was to see guys at 70 riding this trail, yep 70! sipping scotch every night and enjoying every minute of the ride too 💪

Plenty of riding adventures in me yet 🤣

After tasting the awesome on my trip to NZ and discovering freeze dried food can actually taste great I decided to try a few different meals and brands easily available in Australia.

which is made in Tasmania and offers some of their meals in lightweight and space saving expedition packs. Don’t know about you guys but I’m always struggling for space on the bike so Australian made and offered in a small package means I’m really hoping these are good 👍

And Made in New Zealand. I’ve actually tried one of their meals before and it was pretty good so thought I’d grab a few more. These are really interesting as they come in various different sizes along with side dishes and plant based options.

I’ve purchased all these meals myself and have no affiliation with these companies but offers $15 off if you spend $60 on their site using a referral link and I get some points to help me buy more here’s the link http://loyalty.radixnutrition.com.au/mQ7Dn9QlS

Anyway I’ll let you guys know what these are like, might do a few mini reviews. If you have any other brands you think I should try feel free to mention/tag them in the comments and I’ll check them out too 👍

Freeze dried meals what’s your favourite brands and meals?

On my recent trip to New Zealand I tried Real Meals and they were amazing! Hoping to find something equally as good and available in Australia.

Not bike related but grabbed a hire car and drove down to the Ho**er Valley Track to see Mount Cook. Despite the crowds it was still an amazing walk. I ended up staying to watch sunset and walked out under the stars.

Hogs Back Track lightning tree. Craigieburn trails, New Zealand.

Saw this area while coming back from the west coast and decided to go back and do a bit of riding. Only had time to ride Hogs Back track, pretty awesome trail surrounded by epic hills, more pics to come.

Skyline steps - Old Ghost Road.

Was a lot of work getting the bike down these extremely steep steps, I found the easiest way was to put the saddle on my shoulder grab the bottom bracket and carry the bike.

Mission completed!!!! Have wanted to ride The Old Ghost Road for a long time. The weather wasn’t nice for the last 17km from Specimen point hut to Seddonville but was great to experience the last part of the trail in these moody wet conditions. Now sitting at drying out deciding what to do next, lots more pics to come from this adventure….

Greymouth NZ. Off to ride the Paparoa Track tomorrow.

So far my minds blown by the scenery here. I caught the Tranz Alpine from Christchurch to Greymouth and it was pretty much just hours of postcard perfect scenery.

Accommodation on cloudride was luxurious this year. The weather conditions meant I tried to find shelter each night rather than set up my tent in the rain and storms. Was hoping to keep my gear dry until I got to the section between Jindabyne and Batlow where I’d have no choice but to camp out. This really wasn’t my plan from the start as I feel very comfortable camping out but the conditions just threw any sort of plan out the window.

Unfortunately I had to end my Cloudride 1000 yesterday with a knee injury. I started out from Tubbut to Jindabyne over the Tingaringy but turned back when I realised the little ni**le I had turned to a big one and I just could turn the pedals without having to hop off in pain every few meters.

Absolutely crazy few days on this race with some extreme weather, at this point only 6 can finish it, there’s only two left on course, everyone else has scratched. Tough event.

All my gear held up well, the new Roscoe was solid, absolutely bomb proof and didn’t miss a beat despite being abused and out in rain and mud for days on end loaded with all my gear. Same with the Ardent/Ikon tyres, so reliable, don’t think I could ever put a different combo on my bike, 100% trust in these. My bags held up as expected and did their job as always.

Anyway time to start sharing a few pics I took along the way. This one was taken on the stretch between Cooma and Nimmitabel, in a rare gap in the rain, such a nice place to ride, totally recommend it if you get the chance.

Some pics from last weeks ride out to Holey Hill as a bit of a shake down making sure I could get everything I need on the bike. Only a month from the Monaro Cloudride 1000 so need to get all the little things sorted.

My new custom wombat stem cap arrived today!

A few years ago I went OTB after hitting a wombat 800km into the Monaro Cloudride 1000, dislocating my shoulder and ending my race. Had this wombat logo made up back then for a bit of fun and finally found something to put it on, hoping this new cap brings me some luck during this years race 🍀

Thanks it turned out great and thanks for such a quick turnaround 👍👍
