I am an aging radio guy. I always love the medium. There’s a great challenge to describe action and to tell a story. The medium has changed and continues to evolve past audio but now into video.
Audio podcasts were a great alternative for audio audiences easily produced and really cost effective, many still listen to podcasts in the cars via Bluetooth but that has changed too its now a video format first that offers an audio format as an alternative.
Gone are the days of great DJs who entertain, found an audience, grew that connection and made it a daily part of someone’s life.
Today sports is practically all live video and most are poorly produced. It takes a mammoth effort to bring a sporting event to an audience. I am fortunate to be associated with Lawrence County SportsNet. I’m am always grateful and impressed with everyone’s talent who are involved. I also know none of this could happen without the amazing support of LLCAP.
Our team at LC sportsnet (lead by James Dotson) does an amazing job and service for Lawrence County. I will always miss the audio days and the challenge of bringing the game to an audience that doesn’t see the action but that’s just how it is in 2024.
This brings me to a conclusion the RadioMVP sports podcast has to change with the times. I am so appreciative of Anthony Kepley and his contributions to our podcast. I plan on building a small studio to host our podcast in the future and add video. It’s just the reality to continue to reach a larger audience.
Our podcast has been primarily a NE Ohio focused podcast. We will continue to talk Guardians, Browns, Buckeyes, Penguins sports but I am hoping to embrace more of my connections with Lawrence county so look out Lawrence County but the Ohio guy has finally embraced his sports home.
I had the pleasure to cover New Castle boys basketball for 5 seasons on the radio plus the last 3 years covering all sports in Lawrence County with LC Sportsnet. I miss Ohio football, basketball, and baseball and I will definitely still talk, follow, and enjoy Ohio HS sports but my focus will be Lawrence county.
