Atiku vs Tinubu: I Will Only Drop the Fight When Supreme Court Rules

He urged fellow presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to join him in advocating for “propriety, accountability, and justice.”

In a press conference held Thursday, former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar stated his determination to continue the legal battle concerning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s alleged forgery of his Chicago State University certificate.

Atiku asserted that he would only halt his pursuit once the Supreme Court delivers its verdict, emphasising that he believes in the judiciary’s final decision.

Addressing the ongoing trial, Atiku commented, “I will only drop the fight when the court rules. If the court rules that I am right, fine. If the court rules that he is right, that’s the end of the fight because at the moment, we’re at the Supreme Court, and there’s no higher court than the Supreme Court.”

Police: Auxiliary Nurse Is Prime Suspect in Mohbad’s Death

Feyisayo Ogedemgbe who the CP said is neither a qualified nor registered nurse, is said to be directly responsible for the chain reactions and eventual death of Mohbad.

The Lagos State Police Command has named an auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedemgbe, as the prime suspect in the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Idowu Owohunwa, disclosed this at a press briefing in Ikeja, Lagos.

Owohunwa says Ogedemgbe was invited by Mohbad’s friend, Ayobami Sodiq aka Spending, to inject the singer at his residence on September 12, 2023. He said she administered three injections to Mohbad, but he began vomiting and developed goosebumps shortly afterwards.

Mohbad was rushed to a hospital in Lekki, where he was pronounced dead later.

The CP also declared that Ogedemgbe is neither a qualified nor registered nurse, and her illegal and medical negligence are believed to have been directly responsible for the chain reactions and eventual death of Mohbad.

Ogedemgbe is currently in custody and is facing charges of homicide. The police are also investigating the role of other suspects in the case.

The CP said that the investigation is ongoing and that further updates will be provided in due course.

Ahead of Proposed Indefinite Strike, NLC and TUC Shun Meeting With Government.

A scheduled meeting between the federal government and organised labour to prevent the nationwide strike by workers proposed for next Tuesday failed to hold on Friday.

Chief of Staff to the President, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, and Minister of Labour and Employment, Hon Simon Lalong, were meant to meet with Labour leaders at the State House, Abuja, from about 3pm on Friday, but the meeting failed to hold because the Labour leaders including the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, and his TUC counterpart, refused to show up.

Lalong was sighted at the office of the Chief of Staff Gbajabiamila in preparation for the meeting, but as at about 5:30pm, the expected Labour leaders had not shown up while efforts to get reason for their absence were unsuccessful Friday night.

Sources close to the office of the Chief of Staff, however, informed the meeting had been rescheduled for sometime over the weekend, saying he could not ascertain the particular day.

“They have to disperse since the NLC and TUC people didn’t show up. There must have been a reason and I believe they would have communicated their reasons to those waiting for them. I learned though that the meeting has been rescheduled for sometime during the weekend, but I don’t know which day”, the source said.

The organised Labour had given a notice on Tuesday September 26 that Nigerian workers would be starting an indefinite industrial action, nationwide, from Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in protest of the harsh economic conditions in the country, occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The organised Labour has settled for an all out strike after accusing government of unseriousness, premising its reason for its strike action on the economic downturn.

Putin Orders Former Wagner Commander To Take Charge of ‘Volunteer Units’ in Ukraine

ussian President Vladimir Putin has ordered one of the top commanders of the Wagner military contractor to take charge of “volunteer units” fighting in Ukraine, signaling the Kremlin’s effort to keep using the mercenaries after the death of their chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin.

In remarks released by the Kremlin on Friday, Putin told Andrei Troshev that his task is to “deal with forming volunteer units that could perform various combat tasks, primarily in the zone of the special military operation” — a term the Kremlin uses for its war in Ukraine.

Deputy Defence Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov was also present at the meeting late Thursday, a sign that Wagner mercenaries will likely serve under the Defense Ministry’s command. Speaking in a conference call with reporters on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Troshev now works for the Defense Ministry and referred questions about Wagner’s possible return to Ukraine to the military.

Wagner fighters have had no significant role on the battlefield since they withdrew after capturing the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in the war’s longest and bloodiest battle.

The meeting appeared to reflect the Kremlin’s plan to redeploy some Wagner mercenaries to the front line in Ukraine following their brief mutiny in June and Prigozhin’s suspicious death in a plane crash Aug. 23. The private army that once counted tens of thousands of troops is a precious asset the Kremlin wants to exploit.

The June 23-24 rebellion aimed to oust the Russian Defense Ministry’s leadership that Prigozhin blamed for mishandling the war in Ukraine and trying to place Wagner under its control. His mercenaries took over Russia’s southern military headquarters in Rostov-on-Don and then rolled toward Moscow before abruptly halting the mutiny.

Putin denounced them as “traitors,” but the Kremlin quickly negotiated a deal ending the uprising in exchange for amnesty from prosecution. The mercenaries were offered a choice to retire from the service, move to Belarus or sign new contracts with the Defense Ministry.

Putin said in July that five days after the mutiny he had a meeting with 35 Wagner commanders, including Prigozhin, and suggested they keep serving under Troshev, who goes by the call sign “Gray Hair,” but Prigozhin refused the offer then.

Troshev, is a retired military officer who has played a leading role in Wagner since its creation in 2014 and faced European Union sanctions over his role in Syria as the group’s executive director.

Wagner mercenaries have played a key role in Moscow’s war in Ukraine, spearheading the capture of Bakhmut in May after months of fierce fighting. Kyiv’s troops are now seeking to reclaim it as part of their summer counteroffensive that has slowly recaptured some of its lands but now faces the prospect of wet and cold weather that could further delay progress.
