We Design Beirut’s Samer Al Ameen: We aim to create awareness on the fragile situation of our artisans and their important role in our life and economy. To generate support for them locally and internationally. To build a better future for the upcoming generation of designers and architects but guiding them, exposing them, inspiring them and create opportunities for them. The dream would be to develop a lab for craft and a lab for sustainability for people to learn and engage.
I’m really hoping We Design Beirut inspires other players in the city to promote Art, Fashion, Jewelry, etc... If every industry creates a solid event over a few days we can all help in developing our economy and reducing the struggles.

My first memories of Roberto Cavalli go back to my days as a TV presenter at Orbit in Italy, now OSN. I remember the printed jeans, but also that most amazing dress I wore! A white see through dress with big romantic colourful flowers! His clothes always make a woman feel feminine and sexy, and are very, very romantic!
Since then, I have met Mr. Cavalli on many occasions during Fashion Week in Milano. He makes me laugh, really! Love him or hate him, he has a unique personality, and that no one can deny!

What would you tell your younger self?
“I honestly feel it’s kind of the reverse for me. I think I should remind myself of how I was when I was my younger self. Life is really draining and you get a lot from what’s around you. When I was younger a huge part of how I became a designer and a creative is because I thought everything is possible. No one was telling me it wasn’t. People I had around me like my mom’s best friend who was an artist, allowed me to think that everything is possible design wise. I would tell her I want to do this and this and she would just do it. She gave me the tool, that energy! Let’s do it. Anything is possible. Even now that I am older, I say let’s do it like that and people who work with me could say no you can’t do it like that, and I would say we are doing it like that… So even now, the world is my oyster. Coming from a small country, we were not aware of the rest of the world. I have to remind myself of my old energy, that anything is possible. I was lucky to have this attitude and and not have it tainted. Especially as women, we’re completely bombarded with different things every moment. When we were younger, being in New Zealand kind of allowed me to flower and blossom.”
