We are a record label, specialising in re-issuing outstanding African Music. Stand by for quality releases. Its early 2015.
Welcome to Africa Seven. We are a new record label. We may be based in Paris and London but our hearts firmly rooted in the universal motherland. We love African music, we want everyone to hear it and we want to spread the love. We are a collective of crate diggers, afro music-heads, label spotters and vinyl buying obsessives. We don’t have any particular musical release agenda apart from, “is it
of African origin, does it have a beat?, do we like it?”. For the first few releases on Africa Seven we are exploring a rich seam of creativity and groove from the 70’s. Stand by for re-issues from Manu Dibango, Jake Sollo, Jo Tongo, Pasteur Lappe and Tala AM to name but a few.

Africa Seven's next installment returns to Cameroon with a special edition version of Momo Joseph's in-demand LP released in 2018, "War For Ground", with three extra tracks. Momo may be better known for his work as an actor, having featured in such titles as "La Haine" (1995) and "The African" (1983), but his small foray into music is definitely memorable as he lays it out in true Afro-Boogie style. Apart from two singles, "War For Ground" represents Momo's only other body of work, and only studio album which was self-released in 1983. With this "Edition Speciale" reissue we provide you all the originals from "War For Ground" remastered alongside his party-time classic "Cameroon Airline", "Love Africa Soul" and his lesser known tack "Oh Momo". Vinyl available on bandcamp!
Today we give thanks for amazing music and all of you who have kept up with us all of these years! Showing you our appreciation, we have Vicky Edimo's 'Thank U Mamma' !

Here we have the final A7 Edit releases… Jura Soundsystem bring some serious Balearic boogie flex to Togo icon Afia Mala's 'Koma’, lightly sprinkling the electronic two step souler with some added dub sparkle. Secondly, Stefano Ritteri's interpretation of one of the more psychedelic numbers that we have released on Africa Seven, with Zinabu from Bunzu Soundz, originally featured on their 1976 in demand Afrodisia album. This edit sees the Nigerian psychedelic highlife lift off into space, with trippy sound effects playing on top of chunky sampled drums and a well thought out bass line whilst the guitar solo competes against the vocals for lead position. Now available on streaming platforms!

Africa Seven dives into Africa's psychedelic 70s with this attempt to capture a bit of afro-psych magick, bringing back ‘Afro Psych (Journeys Into Psychedelic Africa 1972 - 1977) released a year ago. Iconic Lagos twins The Lijadu Sisters' 'Bayi L'ense' (1977) opens proceedings with Yoruba vocals, cool strutting funk basslines & scything fuzz guitar. From there, The Oriental Brothers ‘Tax Drive’ is underpinned by tight playing and insistent grooves; Saxon Lee and the Shadows International’s ‘Mind Your Business’ combines James Brown style brass with what sounds like improv’d hammond sections. Gears are quickly shifted as Warhead Constriction get straight up heavy on Graceful Bird, followed by Celestin Nyam's 'Mbembe’s free jazz sax workouts & squalling Hendrix style guitar riffs. Closing off with Christie Azumah And The Uppers International, combination of deep funk, hammonds, choppy guitars and insistent vocals on 'Aja Wondo'.

Next up on Africa Seven is the second edition of our "African Funk Experimentals" LPs. With these we took some of our favourite African artists, choose the most funky we can find and then put together a compilation of their choicest and funkiest tracks. Of course that may not be their most popular or best selling tracks...but that's just fine. We are digging for the funk. Step forward Cameroonian funk master Pasteur Lappe with ‘African Funk Experimentals (1979 to 1981)’. Now BACK IN STOCK! Available to order on badncamp.

Ekambi Brillant was born in the village of Dibombari in Cameroon in 1948. In 1962 he attended school in Yaoundé and learned his musical craft. In 1971 he heads off to the big city lights of Douala. Here he finds himself in a French TV, music competition hosted at "Le Domino" nightclub. It is here where he brushes shoulders with other Cameroonian music legends such Manu Dibango and Francis Bebey. The music contest win gives him the break he needs and in 1972 and with the support of fellow troubadour JK Mandengué he finds himself with a record deal with Phonogram and his first hits in France. In 1975 things start to get a bit funky. In partnership with French producer, guitarist and all around hero, Slim Pezin he creates the "Africa Oumba" album. Ekambi Brillant would go on to become one of the big name legends of Cameroonian music with nearly 20 albums to his name. He has contributed to the emergence of several Cameroonian artists such as Marthe Zambo, Valéry Lobé, Aladji Touré and Africans. As part of our A7 Edits series we’ve bought back the choppy disco strings and slap bass of 1976 disco number "Nyambe" with an edit by Stefano Ritteri, now available on all streaming platforms!
