Jazz is the most vital, vibrant, globally representative music in the world today. It's also like a shark: If it doesn't keep moving forward, it dies! There are plenty of radio shows and radio stations that proudly declare, "Louis invented it! Duke perfected it! That settles it!"
"Jazz2K" is not one of those shows! Since 2013, "Jazz2K" has been dedicated to showcasing the jazz of THIS century, an
d all the influences that make it what it is today: Trad, Fusion, Blues, Latin, World, Reggae, Jam Band, Alternative, and anything else that makes a player say, "Hmmmm... I can work with that!"
"Jazz2K" showcases worldwide artists & groups like Terence Blanchard, Kneebody, Rudresh Mahanthappa, the Pedrito Martinez Group, Gary Burton, Medeski Martin & Wood, Chick Corea, Charlie Hunter, Stefon Harris, Mostly Other People Do the Killing, and a bunch more than I have room for! "Jazz2K" also gives big love to the jazz artists & groups of Greater Nippertown (aka the Capital Region of upstate NY): Brian Patneaude, the Chronicles, Keith Pray, Lee Russo, the Arch Stanton Quartet, Michael Benedict & Bopitude (and Michael Benedict Jazz Vibes), Michael-Louis Smith, John Davey, Joe Barna, and a boatload of others that are coming up! Now, if you think jazz died when Miles went electric, then this probably isn't your radio show. But if you're not like that (or even if you are), take the Jazz2K Challenge! Two hours a week is all we ask, and you don't have to have ice water dumped on your head in a YouTube video -- unless that works for you, of course. :)
