An update from Rae's Fundraiser:

Aanii friends and family,

Miigwetch to everyone for their generosity! We are at 87% of our goal, and every day folks are offering more help in the form of messages, songs, prayers, shares and donations. Thank you, merci beaucoup for all of your help! I know that this is making Rae feel really supported, and they have so much less to worry about because of this.

In the beginning of April, they underwent a few surgeries to fix the ongoing complications from their cancer treatment. What’s great is that Rae is cancer free, and has been for some time now! Surgeons removed their kidney stents, removed a blockage in their digestive system, among other procedures to alleviate the stress and pain that Rae is experiencing.

The healing process has been slow and painful, and we’re hoping that Rae only has a short time left in the hospital. We’re still waiting on more info on what the new plan is for their recovery. In the meantime, Rae is hanging in there. If you’ve got prayers, good vibes, songs or donations to offer to support their healing, it’s so appreciated. A little always goes a long way!

Rae’s dear friend Geoff Burner recorded one of Rae’s tunes, “Money”, from their latest album “Mental Health”. I’ve listened to this album countless times - to me it’s a prescription to help me get through challenging times. Rae’s music is good medicine.

Aanii friends and family,

Rae is currently playing the waiting game. The medical staff at the hospital think they have a partial blockage in their gastro system, but it’s too swollen from the last surgery to do anything about it. They need to wait until it’s been 6-8 weeks since the last surgery. Then they may perform another surgery.
It looks like Rae will need two or three other surgeries (either separately or at the same time) to resolve all the other complications, with many weeks of rest in between.

What’s great is that Rae has been able to have phone conversations with close friends. What’s amazing though, is that no matter how they are feeling, they feel supported by the community in this waiting game.

We’re extending the fundraiser by another 30 days. In that time, you can expect more cover songs to pop up, and more updates about Rae’s health.

Update on Rae Spoon from Greyson Gritt:

Aanii friends and family!

We had a sunny day this weekend, and my partner and I drove outside the city to catch some sun, and to sing some songs in the car. We listened to Rae’s albums Mental Health and bodiesofwater, and we basically cried the whole time. Their lyrics are filled with so much wisdom and truth. Their art and their existence is such a gift!!!!

Rae has been feeling a lot better. I know that seeing the support pour in for this fundraiser, and from all the kind messages online, has made a huge impact on Rae. They are feeling a bit better and stronger everyday, and it looks like they may have their surgery in a couple of weeks. We are waiting to hear back from the surgeons, and we know there are many procedures in Rae’s future, so every bit of support helps!

A big update from Greyson Gritt and the Team regarding our family/friend Rae Spoon.

Aanii friends and family,

We have an important update for you about Rae’s situation, and about our new fundraising goal.

Late last week, both of Rae’s kidneys began shutting down. Once these complications were discovered, surgeons had to stop their planned surgery to figure out what happened, and for Rae to stabilize. It was a close call, and luckily Rae was transferred from the ICU into a regular hospital room over the weekend.

When we started this fundraiser, we had the best case scenario in mind, with the shortest healing window in mind.

All that has changed.

Eventually, surgeons will be able to figure out how to work with Rae’s healing complications from their many treatments and surgery. Hopefully, afterwards, this will help resolve the painful infection that Rae has been experiencing. Finally, surgeons will figure out how to close the original surgical site that has yet to heal. With these complications, Rae is expecting to be in the hospital for the next couple of months. Their recovery time will also be much longer than previously anticipated, and will likely need more home care once they are discharged from the hospital. This is our new best case scenario.

In light of these new complications, and of the expected recovery and healing times, we have raised our goal up to 150k. We will increase the ask once we make it to our goal, because our friend will need as much time as possible to rest and heal from all of this.

They’ve been amazingly strong throughout treatment, having many close calls and experiencing way too much pain. This is a way that we can help. This is your call to action, and here are some action items you can take on!

Share this Fundraiser on your social media, and message your friends to share it on their social media pages too. Share it with the networks you are connected to. Share it if you’ve had Rae perform in your space! Share it often throughout the week and month!

Comment on the fundraiser posts. Use the “love” or “wow” reaction emoji. Write something nice about Rae, or share a story about Rae’s impact on your life. Not only will Rae see it, and feel loved, it will also help the algorithm to prioritize the post. Meaning it’s more likely that people will see it in their feed.

Donate if you can swing it. We will be extending the fundraiser if our 30 days run out. If you happen to come into some $ in the next few weeks, please consider donating if you can! You can donate more than once as well!

If you listen to satellite radio, college radio, CBC radio - please email them to request that they play your favourite Rae Spoon song. Doing this regularly means that in the coming months and years, Rae will receive royalties from those plays. If you’re in the US / UK / Europe, please push satellite and local radio to play their songs. It will help Rae a little later on.
