On May 26, 2011 the University of Central Florida (UCF) Board of Trustees voted on a resolution to partner with Brevard Community College (BCC) as a means of creating a new source of public broadcasting for the Central Florida community. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously on the resolution, and today we are thrilled to see WUCF-TV become a reality. The decision to create WUCF-TV was catalyzed
by WMFE's decision to sell our local PBS station to Daystar, a faith-based television network. Naturally, WMFE's announcement to sell our community's 45 year old PBS station was found to be both shocking and frustrating. But needless to say, it did not stop us from finding solutions. Soon after, two UCF students launched the campaign to Keep PBS in Orlando. What started as a small grass roots campaign evolved into a huge community movement – one that is proud to have played a supporting role in the creation of WUCF-TV. Scheduled to be on-air on July 1, 2011, WUCF-TV will provide the community with both nationally acclaimed PBS programming and locally made programming. But this venture will not be possible without our support. We already knew that UCF stood for opportunity – now it's our chance to turn this opportunity into a reality. Please like our page to show your support for WUCF-TV. Stay tuned for more to come.
