Fire Departments I have been around a camera my whole life.

My father has been photographing and filming fire scenes for over 30 years so I grew up around it. I am also in process of trying to expand my photography past just fire scenes.

On Sunday a wetdown and dedication was held for the new Engine 404. It is a 2023 1500 gpm Enforcer pumper. Members of the company used their first apparatus, Tootsie, to ceremoniously wetdown the rig. Tootsie, a hand drawn pumper, was built in 1864 and purchased by the department in 1893. It was damaged in 1990 after a fire at the East Rockaway Grist Mill Museum. Firefighters were able to crawl in and pull her out before she became severely damaged. After the new Pierce was driven under a water curtain by fellow East Rockaway and visiting pumpers.

A funeral was held Monday for retired FDNY Lt James Lopez. Before joining the FDNY, he proudly served his country in the US Army 82nd Airborne from 1962 - 1965, and 1 year in the reserves. Jimmy graduated the FDNY Academy on October 26, 1968 and was assigned to Engine 230. When the TCUs were formed he decided to go to one of the Bronx TCU’s. A few years later when they were disbanded, he went to Ladder 48. Jimmy then went to Rescue 2 in Brooklyn until he was promoted in 1985. He went on to become a lieutenant at Rescue 5 and remained until his retirement in 1995. His brother Robert retired as lieutenant of Engine 62 and his son Jimmy is currently one of the senior men at Rescue 2. RIP Jimmy.
