Summer is here! We have upgraded our Excessive Heat Watches to Excessive Heat Warnings starting Saturday. This heatwave will be very long in duration as it could potentially drag on into the end of next week!

We would like to remind everyone about the regulations surrounding fireworks in our county.

The use of personal fireworks is not permitted in any of the unincorporated areas of Chelan County, as well as in the cities of Cashmere, Wenatchee, and Leavenworth. 🚫

We understand the joy and excitement that fireworks bring, but we must prioritize the safety of our community and the preservation of our beautiful landscapes.

Remember, there may be legal consequences for any injuries or damages caused by the irresponsible use of fireworks. Consequences can range from being charged with an infraction to a felony, as well as monetary penalties or claims. For more details, please refer to the Chelan County Code. https://www.codepublishing.com/WA/ChelanCounty/ #!/Chelco07/Chelco0744.html #7.44

Let’s celebrate responsibly and ensure a safe and happy time for all.

Happy Independence Day!

Thinking about using fireworks irresponsibly this holiday weekend? Well, we'd kind of prefer you didn't!

While fireworks are legal on private land outside city limits, they can frighten or disturb neighbors, pets, livestock and wildlife. Fireworks also pose a serious risk of residential and wildland fires. If your holiday plans include fireworks, follow these tips to enjoy them safely:

• Light fireworks in clear, open areas away from flammable debris like grass or wood
• Always light fireworks on a flat surface to ensure they don’t tip over
• Have a bucket of water and/or a fire extinguisher close by
• Soak used fireworks in water before throwing them away

For more tips, read https://www.dhs.gov/science-and-technology/news/2022/06/30/10-tips-firework-safety?fbclid=IwY2xjawDxU3hleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHZqI-gsVRYG4CvmT9DfqstSIgYSf45sKofsQOmDcPNzW7erBh21s6OgeeQ_aem_E395nQrf0e4skBcOu2ZwZw

Report illegal fireworks through Friday, July 5, by calling 406-258-4850, and law enforcement will respond as capacity allows.

Fireworks are prohibited within city limits, on federally and state-managed land and on county open space and parks. This hotline helps free up 9-1-1 dispatchers for emergency calls. To report a fireworks-related emergency, like an injury or fire, call 9-1-1.

The county commissioners and emergency officials urge residents to use extreme caution if they choose to light off fireworks this summer. If your celebration starts a fire, you are responsible for the cost to put it out, which can be millions of dollars.
