Educating children at home is something many Muslim families are opting for these days. But it’s a daunting task and one loaded with questions and unknowns.

As Muslims, we know what an Ammanah our children are and we are constantly searching for the best way to ensure they get a holistic education that balances their tarbiyah with their academic progression - as well as helping them thrive and maintain their identity in a western society.

Home Education is one route that families may take to create a different learning experience for their children, but as many who already follow this path will tell you, it’s a complete way of life not just something you ‘do’ for school.

If you would like to learn more about my journey home educating my 3 daughters (aged 6, 8 and 10) both in London and Rural Wales - then join me for the Meet & Munch session in Sparkbrook Islamic Centre, Birmingham this Thursday at 12.30pm with

I will share my personal insights into curating an personalised learning environment and we can reflect together on the challenges of raising our Muslim children in the education system and how we can best support them.

Please note: you don’t have to be home educating to benefit from this session - we hope there will be many gems and things to consider no matter where your children learn.

Link to register for the event is in the bio and please feel free to drop any questions you want answering in the comments 👇🏼

It’s easy to think that social media management is just a simple thing. You have an offering…. You tell people about it, they buy.

Of course, it’s never really that simple, especially if “selling” gives you the ick and especially if you want your platforms to authentically reflect your values.

What’s also difficult to understand for clients and prospective clients is HOW MUCH actually goes into carefully and consciously crafting even one post.

➡️This week alone I spent 3-4 hours working on one reel just to get it exactly right, so it communicated exactly what was needed.

➡️I was called in last minute to host a live session ahead of the general election, which had multiple tech issues and ended up taking a lot more of my time than anticipated.

➡️ and I had an extra long team meeting with because we get so carried away coming up with ideas and reflecting on life and best practise.

Some times you also have to be on stand by to react to trends, global issues, natural disasters or things that take us by surprise but warrant a “response”.

I absolutely love working with Muslim owned businesses and genuinely get so much joy from helping others grow both online and personally too.

But what I do find hard about this industry is that it’s often an undervalued service and you’re left with the challenging task of trying to do the best you possibly can, for as little as you possibly can.

✨ If you’ve seen the value of consistent social media strategies in your small business then give this post a little ❤️

Here are 5 ways to increase your reach on Instagram and make sure that you are getting the right 👀 on your content!

➡️ Write descriptive captions with keywords

Previously, you could only search in Instagram Explore via hashtags, location tags, usernames, and profile names. However, you can now search using keywords too. This means that what you write in your caption matters more than ever.

➡️ Add keywords to your Instagram bio

If you’re hoping to rank for a specific keyword, it’s a good idea to incorporate that keyword into your name or username — since both are searchable on Instagram.

If you take a quick look at my bio you will see that the words ‘digital marketing’ and ‘Instagram growth’ are both mentioned in my name.

➡️ Include up to 30 relevant hashtags

Using relevant hashtags on posts is still a great way to get discovered by new audiences on Instagram.

If you have a public Instagram account and add a hashtag to a post, that post will be visible on the corresponding hashtag’s results page.

➡️ Add Descriptive Alt Text to Your Instagram Posts

Instagram alt text is a feature that allows you to write custom alternative text for a better description of your photos.

This feature was mainly designed to improve accessibility but it can also be used for SEO purposes too.

Instagram automatically generates alt text for your photos, but you can add them manually too.

If you don’t know how to do this, comment below and I will explain!

➡️ Be Consistent With Your Brand Niche

The more you follow these best practices, the more the algorithm will learn what your account is all about.

This teaches Instagram who you are and what you offer — which means your profile and content will be served to relevant users as they browse Instagram.

If you need more information on any of these points, just let me know in the comments AND make sure you save this post to come back to!

Why is that an important distinction? ⤵️

Because you can always get more money, but you can never get more time. So you need to ensure that the things you spend your time on will have the biggest impact on your business.

By far the biggest leverage point in any business is ✨marketing ✨ If you can get 10% better at marketing, this can have a huge impact of the overall success of your business.

Let’s talk about engagement.

But first of all … save this post because it’s one you’re going to want to come back to!

Social media is all too often painted as a game of numbers - the more followers you have, the more successful you are!

That’s simply not the case. My business account is fairly new, I don’t have a huge following (yet 🤪) BUT I still have wonderful clients that I run social media for and I’ve still found new clients since making my work more public on this page.

It truly is about nurturing the community that you have and the people who already took the time to follow you in the first place.

Engagement is where it’s at!

And where does this all begin?
That’s right. With your current followers. It’s THEIR engagement and support that’s actually going to help you grow.

Shall we look at what engagement actually means in real terms?

Comments - on your posts / reels (are you using call to actions and asking questions in your content). Try making some bold statements that evoke emotion or debate - unpopular opinions for example.

Saves - it’s always a good idea to prompt your followers to do this. Saves me you’ve added real informative value and something to come back to and dive in on at a later date.

Likes - so simple but so effective and many more people “like” instead of comment these days.

Watch time- are you actually just boring the pants off your audience? Are you strategically using visual hooks, scene changes, captions on text and calls to actual in your videos?

Shareable content - what you really want is for people to share your content in their stories- but remember, there is a psychology behind this and people will often only share what makes them look good or informed. Or perhaps something that’s inspiring or that reinforces their own point of view.

Are you getting good engagement on your social channels?

If you’re NOT…. Comment below and tell me more or send me a DM and I will give your account a mini little audit for FREE!

If you found this helpful, you know what to do! 🤍

Let’s dive in to the things I always aim to do on my Instagram feed.

First and foremost - social media is a place to test and learn. It may take you some time to see what forms of content work well for your ideal audience, what encourages people to engage and what you actually enjoy creating.

So don’t be afraid to try new things and always always look at your data to see what’s actually working.

Video content is still absolutely where it’s at in terms of reach. I also find that this allows me to be creative, show my personality and build connection with you lovely people. I enjoy the process and I don’t like to take myself too seriously!

I’m not the most aesthetic person in the world and you will see Instagram accounts out there that have a much more uniformed feed - I love looking at those pretty grids but I also know it’s not me! I am too flamboyant to present as though I’m neatly boxed! Being authentic is important and the colour and quirk are what work for my vibe. That being said, I do try and keep things simple and clear and I always stay on brand in terms of colour and font.

Carousels are like my mini little story books - I like to share educational content in a way that will be digestible. I like to break ideas down and give clear tangible points that you can implement in your own social media.

I love to write. So you will often find longer form captions in my content, this allows me to connect with you from the heart. It also means I can sneak in lots of keywords that are perfect for attracting my idea client (Muslim business owners and entrepreneurs in case you hadn’t figured that out!)

Of all the things I’ve mentioned, which do you find the hardest to implement in your own content? Let me know in the comments and I will try to help you further in my next posts.

26/03/2024

It’s so important when developing your business to be selective about who you work with and who you invest your hard earned money with - because genuine connections and alignment will really impact how successful the work is.

Some people you just click with, others you don’t, and that ok.

I truly believe that every client, team member or mentor I have worked with over the years has been sent by Allah, they’ve been connections built on trust, faith and gratitude.

I can’t tell you how touched I was to receive this message from the lovely and I will tell you why.

How beautiful is it, that even in a professional relationship we centre our Lord, we pray for one another and we genuinely want the best outcome.

How wonderful that more than a ‘thank you’ we say ‘May Allah reward you’ and rather than ‘I’m so pleased’ we say ‘all praise be to Allah.’

It’s so much more than an exchange of services - it’s rooted in so much more. 🙏🏼

I too will make Dua for you dear Asma, because your work comes from such a genuine place of wanting to do good for His sake and I truly admire how far you’ve already come - Allahumma barek.

14/03/2024

The blessed month of Ramadan is here, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect, not just on our personal growth but on the spiritual health of our businesses too.

Ensuring there’s barakah in our work goes beyond just having the best products or the most engaging marketing strategies. It’s about intertwining our faith deeply within our professional endeavors.

🔍 Are we ensuring our products are halal, treating our employees with fairness, and incorporating zakat into our financial practices?

How does our work impact our personal ibadah? Are we still finding time for prayer, making dua for our business’s success, and using our earnings to uplift those around us?

💡Ramadan already brings so much blessing, so it’s a golden opportunity to reassess and realign our intentions and actions to cultivate a business that’s not just successful in worldly terms but is rich with Allah’s barakah.

💬 I’d love to hear from you all - how do you ensure your business or professional life is aligned with your faith?

What steps are you taking this Ramadan to enhance the barakah in your work?

Let’s share, inspire, and support each other on this journey.

A dear friend of mine sent me this message and I want to share it with you as we welcome the blessed month of Ramadan.

(May Allah bless her for comforting me when I needed it most.)

Allah is preparing us all to let go of our many attachments as this holy month nears.

He is stripping us and bringing us towards Him.

That is the lesson for Ramadan.

The preparation for Ramadan is that we meet Allah raw.

As we are.

With the parts of life that we find terribly hard.

With the hope and gratitude of forgiveness.

May Allah accept our sabr, our deeds and Ibadah. Ameen.

May we submit and surrender to Allah fully and walk through this life in a way that is pleasing to Him always. Ameen

With much love and duas,

Here’s why you shouldn’t follow your competitors 👀

Running a business is hard work, there is so much that goes into it behind the scenes and you all know that already!

But rarely do people speak of the struggles, the insecurities, and the sides of building and growing that aren’t so glamorous.

➡️ When you follow your competitors- for a split second, you forget- that they are just like you.

What you see is their perceived success, or how differently they might do things. Maybe they have a beautifully curated feed, or a ton of engagement and before you know it, you’re second guessing yourself.

I’m telling you this from experience- I’ve run my business for over five years, I’ve been creating content for over ten years BUT I’ve never felt as much imposter syndrome as I have since I set up this account! 🙈

And what makes it worse is when your feed is saturated with people doing a similar thing and you start to convince yourself they are so much better, so much more successful!

✨I want more for you than this.✨

Following competitors can be inspiring, but more often than not it’s just a massive distraction that will drain your creative energy.

Believe in yourself and the offering that you have.

Remember, what their business doesn’t have is YOU. ❤️

Share this with someone who needs to hear it today. Let’s build uplifting communities together.

Here’s a question for you⤵️

Are you truly leveraging the right social media platform for your business, product, or service?

It’s time to rethink strategy - not based on the platforms you love, but on where your audience lives and breathes.

You might not be a fan of TikTok or know how to navigate it, but if you’re in e-commerce or retail, ignoring TikTok Shop could mean missing out on a goldmine of opportunities.

If building a community with depth and loyalty is your aim, Instagram is your digital home. It’s where engagement meets visual storytelling and where your raving fans and supporters love to show up.

For fostering powerful communities or supporting your followers in a more intimate setting, Facebook Groups can be incredibly effective. Plus, for local businesses, Facebook’s geo-targeting capabilities are unmatched.

Feeling political? X (formerly Twitter) might just be your battleground for thought, leadership and influence.

And for the scholars, educators, and business leaders among us, LinkedIn is your next best office. It’s where professionalism meets connectivity.

So what does this mean for you as you navigate social media for your small business?

It means you go where your audience is, even if you have to step out of your comfort zone.

Which platform scares you the most? Drop your thoughts below!

Today I wrapped up on an incredible piece of collaborative work with and as we unpacked the barriers that might be preventing the South Asian Muslim community from engaging with Make-A-Wish Foundation.

I’m so proud of the safe and inclusive space we cultivated together and how open and vulnerable our community were.
