Great Aunt Nettie’s brass door k**b: before and after 🧼 It’s been stored for a couple of decades, and had the thick, gross green corrosion to prove it. made light work of cleaning it, and brought the shine back! It used to be mounted to the door to happiness; now it will be hung on the wall as a remembrance 💕

Trying to catch trout in the drenching rain may not have been the best idea, but at least the Bennett Spring Park Store & More’s dining lodge had some hot cocoa waiting for us to help warm us up 🎣

Sharing from a fishing group: Legendary Old School Fisherman Bill Dance With A Stringer Of Largemouth Bass - Circa 1960's. Most people out on the water today have no clue that largemouth bass were once a popular table fish and bass were eaten after tournaments. Catch and release first started to be promoted in the late 1960s and early 1970s due to the negative impact of tournament culture on fisheries. Catch and release was never meant to be a blanket statement for the entire industry, just a way to cut back on large scale harvest that wasn’t sustainable.

🙏🏻 Prayer request UPDATE: Last week, I asked for prayers regarding an upcoming CT. My massage therapist found a rock-feeling “thing” in the base of my neck last summer. She thought it was just an atrophied muscle. Two months ago, she did a deep tissue massage on it, which caused major issues. My nurse said that was definitely a lymph node, possibly calcified, NOT a muscle, and ordered an ultrasound. She thought it was a node that drains my sinuses, no big deal. But the ultrasound showed it was actually a supraclavicular lymph node, that was way bigger than it should be, and you’re not supposed to be able to feel those at all. Being on the left, that indicates major issues with my heart, or since it was large and palpable, cancer could basically be anywhere in my torso. I have a history of spots on my lungs and heart, and a large spot on my liver surrounded by smaller spots. Hence the follow up CT. The lady that did the CT tried to feel the node before taking the pictures, but couldn’t find it. Weird, because it’s like 1/4” big. I couldn’t feel it, either. When I saw my nurse to go over the results, she couldn’t find it again, either. Now for the results: The spots on my right lung are completely resolved. As in GONE. That doesn’t just happen. They either remain stable, or they get worse. But they’re completely gone! They didn’t notice any on my heart this time, either. The large and smaller spots on my liver have shrunk so small, they couldn’t even measure them. Again, that doesn’t ever happen. And the super scary lymph node? GONE! That’s completely unheard of, as well. No inflammation. No infection. NO big, bad “c” word!! It’s all unexplainably GONE! As if it were never even there! Fifteen years ago, the doctors swore I’d never walk on my own again. This year, all signs pointed to cancer. Well folks, LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY JESUS!! So, the next time you go through something rough, just remember: God may just be getting ready to bless you with an opportunity for testimony. Then the pain won’t feel so bad when you know it comes with the potential to be able to use it to glorify our Healer. Thank you all for your prayers. They truly worked; but then again, they always do 🙌🏻

🙏🏻 Prayer request: Last summer, I started seeing a massage therapist, at which time she found what felt like a rock at the base of my neck. She said it had to be an atrophied muscle, but avoided massaging it. Two months ago, she decided to treat it as an atrophied muscle, assuring me it couldn’t be a lymph node or anything important like that, and did a deep tissue massage on it. That caused severe (new) nerve pain, so I went to the neurologist. He said it was “probably” just a muscle, (after barely touching me and not actually looking for the spot), and insisted I take horrible pain medication that he makes money off of, (obviously I said no), but he said I could still get my weekly massage the next day. I told my massage therapist the dr didn’t actually look, but she said since he thought it was just a muscle, she would massage the area again, but with less pressure this time. Two days later, I went to urgent care, and was told that hard spot felt like a lymph node, possibly calcified, and everything around it was severely inflamed, trying to protect the node. Long story short, my regular nurse sent me for an ultrasound last week, which showed some cause for concern. I’m going back today for a CT of my chest, abdomen, and pelvis. I’m thanking God for blessing me with a nurse that actually cares about me, (that’s pretty rare for me), for letting me walk on my own when the drs said that was impossible for me, for the air in my lungs, for a great family, for healthy neices and nephews and a healthy SIL, and for so many other things; and I’m asking Him to continue to heal me. To heal this thing in my neck, and whatever caused it. This CT is going to turn out great, thanks to our Great Physician. There’s nothing He can’t do! Trials make me and my faith stronger, and I know He’s got this! Better the desert with You, God, than the land of milk and honey without You 🙌🏻

Wow!

Wow!

This gorgeous Colorado River smallmouth bass is a new (Ladies) IGFA all-tackle world length record for the species!

The chunky smallmouth measured 53 centimeters (20 inches) on an official IGFA measuring device, which tied the fish for the length record with two other officially recognized smallies. Sarah Harris landed her big fish while night fishing on the Colorado River in Arizona. It slammed a topwater lure and was boated after a short fight. After snapping some photos, Harris released it safely.

Harris’s bass tied a smallmouth caught by William Brent Evans from Alabama’s Lake Guntersville in 2014 as well as one caught from Washington’s Osoyoos Lake by Shane Hoelzle in 2020.

The IGFA all-tackle world record smallmouth by weight is a long-standing 11-pound, 15-ounce mark that was set in 1955 by David Hayes at Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee.

Hayes’s Dale Hollow fish is a record that might stand forever, but those length records can be beaten. While a 20-inch smallmouth is definitely a trophy fish, 20-plus inchers are caught pretty regularly. It’s a matter of time before someone with an official IGFA measuring device puts one in the boat.

🎣 NEWS: New Ohio State Record White Crappie
🐟 A 29-year Ohio state record for White Crappie has been exceeded, and as the racing world would say, it was won by just a nose. The new entry surpassed the existing record by 0.01 pound, weighed on an inspected and certified scale.

⚖️ The White Crappie, weighing 3.91 pounds, was caught by Teresa Croy of Ottawa, Ohio. Ms. Croy landed her catch November 2, 2024, from a pond at the Glandorf Rod and Gun Club in Putnam County. The fish measured 18.5 inches long was landed on 8-lb test monofilament line using a worm as bait.

🤩 Her catch replaces the previous state record White Crappie which was caught from a private pond near Zanesville by Kyle Rock of Zanesville on April 25, 1995, weighing 3.90 pounds and measuring 18.5 inches long. Ohio’s record fish are determined on the basis of weight only and are certified by the Outdoor Writers of Ohio State Record Fish Committee with assistance from fishery biologists from our agency.

About Me

In the fall of 2009, my horse threw me at a rodeo, broke my back in seven places (seven vertebrae, each in multiple places), damaged fourteen other spinal components, damaged my spinal chord, fractured my eye socket, caused a concussion, and dislocated my shoulder. I was told I had a 0% chance of ever walking on my own again. It was physically impossible, they said. Well, I proved them wrong.

As part of my healing process, my doctors have prescribed me what is now called “eco therapy”, which is basically spending as much time in the woods and on the water as I can. It doesn't matter if my body will only allow for 15 minutes in the outdoors, or longer, as long as I’m fishing, hunting, or walking around the woods aimlessly, it serves as a great from of physical therapy. There is currently no cure for my rare spinal chord injury/disease, (Post Traumatic Syringomyelia), but fishing and spending time in God’s great outdoors has really helped to maintain my strength, and has been great for my morale!

The “Jessie’s Journey: Hook, Line, and Sinker” page has been created so that I can share with you my fishing journeys and other outdoors excursions. I hope this page motivates you to get involved in the outdoors, and inspires you to push through whatever life throws your way, no matter how “impossible” it may seem at the time.
