Fourteen years ago, they swore I’d never walk on my own again. While God proved them wrong, I still wonder, each year when deer season rolls around, if I’ll have the strength to hunt just one more time. Although I’ve yet to see any deer, and the sign has been pretty much nonexistent in these unseasonably warm temperatures, I still see this season as a successful one; because I have the physical ability to wander through these Ozarks hills and hollers, in search of wild game, just one more time. Because I always seem to find much more than what I’m actually looking for. So if God’s given you a gift, He must’ve given it to YOU for a reason. Use it. It would sure be a shame to let something so precious go to waste.

Apparently, when you don’t shoot your bow for 7 years, the stabilizer feels left out and melts itself into a play dough-like substance 🤣 Tip of the day: you can’t shoot consistently with a droopy stabilizer 🏹

If you ask random facebook people to bring you ci******es as you’re floating down the river, and a stranger shows up and tosses a few packs down from the bridge, you might just be from the Ozarks 🤣💕🎣

New grease and oil on the 1977 Daiwa Minicast 1 means we’re ready for some goggle eye 🐟 I tested the castability in the yard with the old line and old grease, and it casted smoother and WAY further, (with absolutely no effort), than even my high end modern setups do. So imagine how it will perform with new grease and new 2lb Platypus line! This is one of many reasons why I prefer vintage gear; 46 years old and it still out performs modern reels, even with caked up grease 🎣

Story. Of. My. Life! Is there a reason that each size of women’s hunting/fishing pants are made to fit 3 to 4 different waist sizes and therefore don’t actually fit anyone (ex. small fits sizes 0 to 3)? And is there a reason why they’re only offered in a 32” inseam, which is 4” too short for me, and way too long for shorter gals? Every major brand is sized like this. It’s no secret that we’re all sized and shaped different and can’t all wear the same waist size/inseam. One would think a company could make more money by using a little common sense and offer clothing that’s made to fit, instead of trying to convince us to all wear the same size, but what do I know? I’m just the consumer. I just want a pair of pants to wear fishing that’s not as hot as jeans. I wouldn’t think that’s too much to ask. So, is there a reason? Asking for millions of outdoorsy women in this world; generations and generations dating back to Eve, in fact….

Johnny Cash and Johnny Horton were business partners and did quite a bit of fishing together. They also worked to bring the Cane River Bait Company of Natchitoches, La., to fruition. Horton founded the company in 1959 with help from silent partner Cash. The company produced three lures (the Ole Fire Ball Sinker, the Ole Fire Ball Surface, and the Galloping A).

Sadly, the company was in the early stages of production when Horton died in a tragic 1961 accident, and the company dissolved. Now those Horton-Cash lures are hard-to-find collector’s items.

In his 2003 autobiography “Cash: The Autobiography,” Cash said he locked himself in a hotel barroom and cried when he heard about Horton’s death. Cash spoke at his friend’s funeral.

Later, the singer dedicated his rendition of Horton’s first big song, “When It’s Springtime In Alaska (It’s Forty Below),” to Horton on his “Personal File” album.

105 for 1/05!! This vintage beauty is a pre-date code, four spacer; which means it was made sometime between 1972 and 1981. The cool thing about that, is the blade is 440C steel, which I love!! The length and blade shape makes the 105 absolutely perfect for the upcoming turkey and trout seasons, and it’s actually just a great all around woods knife. Buck currently offers the 105 in 420HC, D2, and S35VN. If you had to pick just one of these steels, which would it be, and why? 🔪

Check out what I got from !! Made in 1924, like new, IN THE BOX, Shakespeare model 1965 Professional, level wind fishing reel. This dude has hand engraved German silver plates, Bakelite rings and handle k***s, the bearings are Ruby jeweled like a high end watch, and it’s still spooled with the original camo nylon braided line. I wonder what the original owner did for a living, as these cost $25 in the 20’s, (equivalent to $400 today). They must have really loved to fish 💕 This reel’s a keeper, for sure 🎣

This would likely help the turkey poult survival rate significantly, as well as the quail, fawn, etc. population. Let the Missouri Dept. of Conservation know your thoughts on this proposed change through their public forum: https://mdc.mo.gov/form/proposed-regulations-comments

About Me

In the fall of 2009, my horse threw me at a rodeo, broke my back in seven places (seven vertebrae, each in multiple places), damaged fourteen other spinal components, damaged my spinal chord, fractured my eye socket, caused a concussion, and dislocated my shoulder. I was told I had a 0% chance of ever walking on my own again. It was physically impossible, they said. Well, I proved them wrong.

As part of my healing process, my doctors have prescribed me what is now called “eco therapy”, which is basically spending as much time in the woods and on the water as I can. It doesn't matter if my body will only allow for 15 minutes in the outdoors, or longer, as long as I’m fishing, hunting, or walking around the woods aimlessly, it serves as a great from of physical therapy. There is currently no cure for my rare spinal chord injury/disease, (Post Traumatic Syringomyelia), but fishing and spending time in God’s great outdoors has really helped to maintain my strength, and has been great for my morale!

The “Jessie’s Journey: Hook, Line, and Sinker” page has been created so that I can share with you my fishing journeys and other outdoors excursions. I hope this page motivates you to get involved in the outdoors, and inspires you to push through whatever life throws your way, no matter how “impossible” it may seem at the time.
