Arguably, the LAFP was America's first real "underground newspaper". Preserved in 63 Historical Collections, mentioned in more than 400 books, on several 100 wikipedia pages, and with 1000's of references to it on Google, it's widely recognized not just as a 'reporter' of the historical events of the 60's, but as an integral part of them! This is especially true with regard to the music scene... w

hen the Left Coast was the place to be! LA was, day and night, a musical trip - with new sounds and groovy light shows - clubs like the Cheetah, the Magic Mushroom, The Whisky and a dozen more featured 100s of performers that hardly anyone had ever heard of... back then. The Bido Lido had The Doors as their house band, the Whisky (with only 400 or so seats) had Alice Cooper AND Led Zeppelin – for an entire week. BS&T at the Troubadour, Lightfoot at the Golden Bear, Arlo at UCLA, and Bob graduated from playing at Beverly Hills HS and went on to the Monterey Pop Festival. Richie Havens and the Vanilla Fudge (there's a mixed bag) are at the Shrine, so is Fleetwood Mac with The Who... but that's gonna set you back like $5 bucks. Might as well see Jimi and 6 other groups for... $7.50. Dave, Del, Dion, Donovan and 8 other Ds. Further down the list, it's James, Janis, Jimmy, John, Joe, Joan, Joni, Jose, and Judy. You can play this game all day long with us, from A to Z, because there are more than 1,200 artists in the historic adverts of the original LA Free Press! And we've put our entire Collection of them - many with full-on psychedelic art, those insanely low admission prices, and all with performers who provided the soundtrack to an era that changed America forever - on display... For you... For free. Now, do yourself a favor - 'Like' us. Or, even better, become a 'Fabulous Fan' JUST by telling us that what we're offering is cool (a right-on, absolutely blatant clue here, you guys). And if you do it NOW, before the entire world gets hip to this, you'll wind up with a slew of special perks! First off, thru the modern day whizbangery of this here Facebook,
you will be automatically notified on Opening Day. IN THE MEANTIME, we will be posting the videos of some of the once-there performers, some of whom are best remembered by later groups (who borrowed a bit here and there), but who you may think should be instantly Zappa'd on to every ipod today. And here's what's especially cool: first and foremost, videos sent in by the Fabulous Fans WILL BE SPOT-LIGHTED - IF the performance was by an Artist that is found in our pages (remember, 64-69), has high-quality sight and sound and, if a live performance, it was ACTUALLY filmed 'back in the day'. And THEN, to celebrate each posting, ALL the other cool 'Fans' (surely this last clue will put you among them) will receive a closed-door, EXCLUSIVE communique. What will it be? For sure, one of our not-yet-publicly-released adverts, interviews, reviews or photos of the performer in the video... and maybe something else, too.
