Do you believe Jeffrey Dahmer had any involvement in Adam's disappearance?

Nearly two weeks after Adam Walsh vanished, on August 10, 1981, a find was made that would forever alter the lives of both his family and their community. It was the news that they were all dreading.

In Vero Beach, Florida, over 120 miles south of where Adam went missing, two fishermen discovered the partial remains of a boy in a drainage canal. Local authorities were called, and a proper investigation got underway.

The state of the remains made identification difficult. Still, dental records confirmed what the family feared most: The remains were indeed those of six-year-old Adam Walsh.

Law enforcement acted quickly when Adam was reported missing on July 27, 1981. Still, the absence of protocols in place for cases involving a child was like having one hand tied behind their backs.

The Hollywood Police Department deployed a command center to the Sears store and organized a search area. They interviewed store employees, customers, and nearby residents in hopes that someone would have some information about Adam. Unfortunately, this turned up nothing.

Do you think Ottis Toole's confession was reliable?

Her search became desperate. With the help of store employees and other customers, Reve frantically searched for her son. The store's security had been notified, and announcements were broadcast over the public address system. Despite these efforts, Adam was nowhere to be found.

Police were summoned, and an emergency response team arrived. It was then that they officially declared Adam missing, and in a short amount of time, the search turned into a city-wide manhunt.

The search team passed out flyers with Adam's photograph, and television stations aired pleas for information. The community came together and searched for the little boy, with volunteer groups helping to search, but as time went on, it became clear that he was not coming home.

The case of Adam Walsh was an enigma. Since there were no witnesses, the details of what happened were unclear, and the store's surveillance tapes did not provide any definitive evidence.

There was endless speculation and theorizing about what happened to Adam. Did he simply wander off, had someone enticed him to go with them, or was he a target of something even more wicked?

How the 1981 Murder of Six-Year-Old Adam Walsh Sparked a National Crusade for Change

In July 1981, Adam Walsh was abducted from a Florida mall and murdered. His death would be the catalyst for major changes in child protection legislation as well as the TV show America's Most Wanted

For the Walsh family, July 27, 1981, was just another sunny day in Hollywood, Florida. Adam Walsh and his mother, Reve, spent time shopping at the Sears store in the Hollywood Mall.

Reve had only a couple of stops to make, and she wanted to make the trip in and out fast. As Reve and Adam walked through the Sears store, Adam beelined straight for the video games near the toy department and begged his mother to let him watch for a while. Reve had noticed some other children playing with the games and assumed Adam would be okay staying for a few minutes while she quickly browsed through the lamp section a couple of aisles over.

She told Adam not to move and that she would be right back.

Reve felt confident and at ease perusing through the lamp selection. But when she returned a few minutes later, Adam had vanished from the toy department. She initially believed that he might have wandered to check out other toys and, as a result, she started looking in the aisles around her with no success.

The minutes dragged on excruciatingly, and soon, her panic turned into dread. Her cries for Adam fell on deaf ears, and the cold chill of fear washed over her as she realized that he was gone.

Why do you think police took so long to capture Berkowitz aka. the Son of Sam?

Following the Christmas Eve attacks, David moved from his apartment in the Bronx to Yonkers. During this time, it seems apparent that Berkowitz was struggling with his mental health.

The shock and betrayal he felt upon learning the details surrounding his birth and adoption, combined with his increasing loneliness and isolation, was a recipe for trouble.

Berkowitz would claim that his neighbor’s black lab was possessed by a bloodthirsty demon named “Sam,” and he ordered David to do terrible things. Berkowitz would later claim that the story of “Sam” was a hoax.

The first killings committed by Berkowitz were on July 29, 1976, when David matter-of-factly approached two women, Donna Lauria and Jody Valenti, who were sitting in a parked car outside of Lauria’s home discussing the events of their night out.

Before they had time to react, David produced a gun from a paper bag, crouched, and shot.

Do you think David Berkowitz's past played a major role in his turn to violence?

David Berkowitz was born in Brooklyn in June of 1953.

His mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Broder, had one other child, the product of a previous marriage to an Italian American man. But because her Jewish family didn’t approve of her marriage to a gentile, their relationship did not last.

Soon, her husband had left her for another woman–leaving Broder to parent her daughter alone.

Over a decade later, Broder was involved in an affair with a married man named Joseph Kleinman. When she discovered that she was pregnant, Kleinman vehemently opposed paying any child support and threatened to leave her unless she gave up the baby.

By the time David was born, Broder had already arranged for his adoption. She carried on her relationship with Kleinman until he died of cancer in 1965.

Terror In New York: The Chilling Case of David Berkowitz "The Son of Sam"

For over a year in the late 1970s, an unknown gunman targeted and shot young women and couples seemingly at random. The senseless violence gripped New York City in fear

It was the sweltering summer of 1977.

R&B was at the top of the charts, Saturday Night Fever had just been released, and across the nation, the young and wild were thronging to clubs and discos to dance their cares away.

Perhaps more than most, New Yorkers needed the release.

Jobs were increasingly hard to come by, and crime was steadily on the rise. In July, a series of lightning strikes caused blackouts–and subsequent looting incidents–across the city.

Worse still, though, were the rumors of an indiscriminate killer with a .44-caliber revolver.

He called himself “The Son of Sam.”

Disturbing New Developments in the Gilgo Beach Murders Case

Last July, Long Island resident Rex Heuermann was charged with four murders related to the infamous “Gilgo Beach Murders.” Last month, disturbing new evidence has led to additional murder charges

Recent developments in the “Gilgo Beach Murders” case have caused authorities to reevaluate some of their previously held assumptions.

Last July, police arrested 60-year-old Rex Heuermann at his Massapequa Park, Long Island home and charged him with the murder of four women who had come to be known as “The Gilgo Four.”

They were 22-year-old Megan Waterman, 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 24-year-old Melissa Barthelemy, and 27-year-old Amber Lynn Costello. All four women worked as escorts, and all four disappeared after attending an appointment with a client.

The remains of the four women were discovered in December 2010 while police were investigating the disappearance of another woman named Shannan Gilbert. Over the span of three days during the search, the remains of the four women were discovered within a quarter-mile radius; all were about 500 feet from one another.

Considering the new evidence, do you think there are more victims that haven't been found yet?

Rex Heuermann became a suspect in the case in May 2022 when a Chevrolet pickup truck that he owned was linked to one of the murders by an eyewitness.

On July 26, 2003, the day that two dog walkers found the severed legs and torso of 20-year-old Jessica Taylor, a witness remembered earlier seeing a dark-colored Chevrolet pickup truck in the wooded area where the remains were found.

As investigators scrutinized Heuermann’s phone records and internet browsing history, the results were damning. Police say that Heuermann had made phone calls to at least three of the victims, often using “burner phones.”

Heuermann is also said to have maliciously called and taunted the family of Melissa Barthelemy on at least five occasions shortly after her murder. Telling her family members, including her little sister, that he had r***d and murdered Melissa.

His internet history was also examined, and it contained some very suspicious inquiries, including how not to leave forensic evidence, torture methods, and searches about the victims and their families, as well as police progress in the case.

Do you think the police missed critical evidence or ignored leads due to the biases towards the victims?

At first, these older cases were thought to be unrelated to the ten victims found between December 2010 and 2011. Most of the victims discovered in 2010 and 2011 were young women in their twenties who were working as escorts when they disappeared.

The exception to this was the remains of an infant between 18 and 24 months, discovered in April 2011, and a young Asian man who was between 18 and 22 years old and was wearing women’s clothes.

DNA testing revealed that the infant was actually the daughter of the Jane Doe named “Peaches,” whose remains were found in 1997. They had likely been murdered at the same time. The identity of the young Asian man has yet to be determined.

When Rex Heuermann was arrested last July, he was indicted for the murders of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

However, new evidence has emerged that has led authorities to charge him with two more killings. Heuermann has now also been charged with the murders of Sandra Costilla and Jessica Taylor. He is also a person of interest in the 2000 murder of Valerie Mack.

Do you think the community's support for Hart was justified given the circumstances?

On the morning of June 13th, counselor Carla Wilhite had awoken before the campers, hoping to take a peaceful shower before starting her busy day. While walking to the showers at 6 a.m., Carla made a horrifying discovery: at the base of a tree, approximately 100 yards from Tent 7, lay the lifeless body of Denise Milner.

Carla rushed over to Denise, quickly realizing that the young girl was no longer alive. Denise was lying on top of her sleeping bag, with two other sleeping bags next to her. Initially, Carla thought only Denise had been killed until she realized that the bodies of Lori Farmer and Michele Guse were zipped inside their sleeping bags.

Panicked, Carla rushed for help. She quickly located the camp director and nurse, bringing them back to the tree where the three girls lay. Upon returning, the horror and weight of the scene took hold of Carla, and she was filled with a feeling of intense fear.

Camp officials rushed to contact authorities and evacuate the camp, sending the girls home with their families as quickly as possible. Camp Scott was shut down as the investigation began.

Tent 7 was located in the furthest position from the counselors’ tent, and the line of sight to Tent 7 was partially blocked by the camp showers. The girls had been dumped on the path leading to the showers.

Do you think Camp Scott could've been more vigilant when they received the note from the possible killer?

Two months prior to that summer’s annual camp, there had been a strange happening. While attending a counselor training at Camp Scott, one of the counselors noticed that her belongings had been rifled through and her doughnuts had vanished.

Upon further investigation, the camp counselor found a note inside the empty doughnut box that read, “We are on a mission to kill three girls in tent one.” Though it seemed like cause for alarm, the camp’s director disagreed, writing the incident off as a prank.

Then, on the first night of camp, a severe thunderstorm rolled in late in the evening. Due to the storms, the night grew especially dark.

One camper, Amy Sullivan, wrote in her diary that night, “It was the darkest dark I had ever known. I couldn’t tell if my eyes were open or shut.” This dark and stormy night set the scene for the horrific and heinous acts that were to come.

Horror at Camp Scott: The Despicable Case of Gene Leroy Hart and the Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders

During their first night at summer camp, three young Girl Scouts were brutally assaulted and murdered in their tent. 45 years after the case went cold, DNA evidence has confirmed the killer

Not far northeast of Tulsa, Oklahoma, lies the small town of Locust Grove. Only a few miles from the quaint town is the summer retreat known as Camp Scott, a site that had been beloved by local Girl Scout troops for decades.

Since 1928, groups of Girl Scouts had gathered at Camp Scott for two weeks of summertime fun. Camp Scott was nestled in the wilderness, accessible only via a dirt road off the highway. While at camp, the girls slept in tents on platforms, completely immersed in the natural beauty surrounding them.

Since Camp Scott first opened in 1928, it had been a safe place for Girl Scouts to enjoy a summer escape. There had never been any significant incidents, nor had there been any reason for parents to fear for their daughters’ safety while at camp.

By all accounts, Camp Scott was a beloved location where these young girls could enjoy themselves and make new friends, with past campers recalling their younger years spent at Camp Scott with great fondness.

Do you think the key evidence used in Sanchez's conviction was scientifically sound and reliable?

At the same time that police were investigating Megan Barroso’s disappearance, they were also looking for a violent and dangerous predator who had been dubbed “The Simi Valley Ra**st.” By the time of Megan’s disappearance, he had already attacked more than a dozen women.

The attacks began in late 1996, and over the years, their aggression and intensity increased. From what police were able to gather, the ra**st stalked the majority of his victims before attacking them. He would even try to learn their names and, if possible, the names of their family members.

He would sometimes threaten the victim’s family members by name to keep them from reporting the attack.

The attacker would often threaten his victims at knifepoint. However, some of his would-be victims were able to fight back and turn the tables on him, forcing him to flee.

Some of those who were not fortunate enough to get away recalled that the attacker would take n**e photos of them while wearing his mask, and he would often steal “trophies” like underwear or other personal items.

Do you think police investigators could've done more to prevent Sanchez's series of crimes?

The following day, July 5th, police made a disturbing discovery. Megan’s rental car was found on the center median near a highway underpass. The car was still running. Even more concerning was the condition of the car.

The car had five bullet holes in it, with the majority being in the windshield. Investigators also observed blood on the seat and steering wheel. Another troubling sign was the fact that Megan’s cell phone and purse were still in the vehicle while she was nowhere to be found.

When one of her sandals was also discovered in the car, it became apparent that Megan had either fled the car in such a hurry that she left these important items or that she was hastily removed from the car and abducted.

Police did find bullet shell casings near Megan’s car. They were eventually found to have been fired by an AK-47 rifle.

Believing that she may have fled and hidden nearby, police checked the surrounding area carefully but found no trace of Megan.

A Glitter of Hope: How an Unlikely Piece of Evidence Put Away A Violent Ra**st and Killer

On July 4, 2001, 20-year-old Megan Barroso disappeared after celebrating with friends. One month later, her body was found. The investigation would lead to the apprehension of a violent serial ra**st

After partaking in Independence Day festivities in 2001, 20-year-old Moorpark Community College student Megan Barroso disappeared. Prior to her disappearance, Megan had spent the evening at a barbeque held at the family home of one of her good friends, Lindsay Gross.

After the barbeque, Megan and Lindsay went to Silver Strand Beach to watch fireworks. The two girls met up with some friends from high school and were enjoying the festive atmosphere.

Around 10:30 pm, Barroso and Gross headed to a friend’s apartment in Newbury Park, California. As the hours passed, the friends continued to enjoy the holiday.

Then, around 2:45 am, Megan told Lindsay that she was going to head home. Megan had been offered an opportunity to stay over at the apartment, but she declined. Lindsay kissed her friend goodbye before she left.

She could have never imagined that this would be the last time that anyone except for her killer would ever see Megan Barroso alive.

Do you believe Juanita's ex*****on was driven more by her race than her actual guilt?

As time goes by, more and more questions become glaringly obvious. Did Juanita die because she was Mexican? Did an angry mob’s mentality prevent testimony that could have rendered her a verdict of self-defense?

Even as Juanita was buried, ironically right next to Jock Cannon, the town was reviled for their rash actions.

Eventually, the city of Downieville placed a historical marker on the Craycroft Building to commemorate the event.

It reads simply, “In Memory of Juanita,” and goes on to describe events, including the “mob” trial. Perhaps it’s a reminder and a warning of what can happen on a heated summer day when emotions run high and tempers flare.
