This steamy🔥and heart melting novella was told in a 1st person narrative with a dual POV, letting us into the lives of Amara and Jordan.

🏃🏾‍♀️New Yorker, Amara, is in Atlanta to run in the largest 15k in the world. The race begins & Amara runs into her former college classmate, Jordan, who she has secretly been fantasizing about since they first met. Unbeknownst to her, Jordan has been pining over Amara for the last 7 years.

writes authentic and engaging dialogue that had me immersed in their banter, 🥵 hot seggsual tension, and undeniable chemistry. I fell in love right alongside this couple.

The story took place in a span of only 2️⃣4️⃣ hours, but the character development was well rounded & the story made sense. I loved the hilarious dialogue 😂 between Amara and her bestie, Taneka. I felt the deep friendship between the two, their conversations were so real, and without Taneka bailing on Amara that morning, this reunion would have gone down very differently. The 4th character to enter this love story I believe, was Jordan’s hometown, the city of Atlanta. I love 💕 the role the city plays in showing how entrenched these two are in philanthropy and community and the history of civil rights. As Jordan gives Amara a tour through his city, we get to know more about him and the impact he has on those he serves and why his job is so important to him. The sparks 🧨 flew in this book and they were most definitely hotter than this Hotlanta 4th of July!

📚 I could have sat and read more of Amara and Jordan’s story for hours and was sad to see it end. That being said, I was left with a delicious 🥵last couple of chapters and a very happily ever after.

In true Sizzling Reads fashion, I need to give Star-Spangled Swagger by Kamyra Harding a spice rating. I rate this book 🌶️🌶️ chili peppers, offering descriptive seggsual tension, foreplay and intimate scenes sprinkled across a few chapters.

📚 This book will be released on July 4th as part of a collection of romance novellas written by black women authors.

🌶️📚❤️ I loved this novella and prequel of Nick and Chloe, fated mates and characters you meet in book 1, Awakening.

This dual POV story starts off with Nick and Chloe in high school. I laughed how Nick thought of Chloe as super hot 🔥 and wanted to f*ck her, but also definitely not f*ck her because then she would “be all clingy and sh*t”. The author really captures teenage angst and hormones well. I could tell a difference in maturity in Nate and his best friend, Ethan, as teenagers vs how they interact and speak to each other in books 1 and 2.

💕 Nick being a year older than Chloe, says he isn’t ready for the kind of commitment a girl like her needs…until he asks her to prom.

Nick has an internal struggle with having real feelings for Chloe and giving in to his overwhelming hormones as prom 🪩 ends and they head back to a private room. He makes a pretty selfish teenage boy mistake on prom night.

It’s not a spoiler to say this novella is how Nick and Chloe find their way to each other and become mates. There were many emotional ups and downs that played into the depth of feelings these two have for each other. With 💪 touch her and d!e vibes and loads of chemistry 🔥 , this book is another must read! I give devotion 4 1/2 stars because I feel so connected with the characters even more having learned their beginning.

This was a short read that was packed full of spice, earning it 4 chili peppers 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.

*4 chili peppers indicates descriptive intimate scenes and a variety of sensual acts in multiple chapters.

* I have read Beginnings and Awakening and read this book 3rd. I like the idea of reading Devotion before book one or after book 2. I know after I finished Beginnings, I craved more of Ethan and Olivia and needed Awakening. This novella was a nice palate cleanser for what I am sure is going to be an awesome book 4!

“Awakenings” by picks up where “Beginnings” left off. If you haven’t read “Beginnings,” do it now before you read this review. I do believe I loved this book more than the 1st!

This book’s multiple POVs gave me a deep insight into the main characters. The story resumes with Olivia being pregnant and adored by Ethan as they prepare for their gender reveal party. During the party, Olivia goes missing, and Ethan finds her engagement ring on the floor, fearing the worst.

Olivia wakes up in a windowless room, knowing she has been drugged, and worried for her unborn child. An attempt at escape happens, Olivia is hurt, and wakes up in a hospital with amnesia, remembering nothing of the past years.

Ethan tracks her down with her ex, Anthony, who gives off major creepy vibes. Ethan’s protective attitude towards Olivia is intense, but she doesn’t remember him. Did the drugs her captor gave her affect her memory?

We witness Olivia’s strong pull towards Ethan, despite her not remembering him. We witness the despair Ethan feels when leaving Olivia and not bringing her back home with him. We witness the hotness in how he dates her and loves her in his attempt to jog her memory.

Let’s pause mid review as I take a moment to compose myself after thinking about Chapter 15. Ethan claims her. I mean, he CLAIMS her. So hot…. I digress, back to the review.

“Awakenings” was is an emotional rollercoaster, making me feel happy, sad, angry, and everything in between. A gut-wrenching yet beautiful scene highlights Ethan and Olivia’s bond and how they are there for each other. Bring tissues.

Olivia overhears Ethan discussing who she really is and who he really is and believes him to be absolutely insane. She questions her trust in Eathan, she runs away from him, and my anxiety returns in full force for a heart-pounding ending that kept me on edge of my seat.

I give this hot & dark & beautiful book 4 1/2 ⭐️ and 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ for spice, indicating descriptive intimate scenes and sensual acts in multiple chapters.
