This is a 1983 American romantic drama dance film Directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Jennifer Beals as a passionate young dancer. who aspires to become a professional ballerina (Alex)
It was the first collaboration of producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, and the presentation of some sequences in the style of music videos was an influence on other 1980s films including Footloose.
Alex's elaborate dance sequences were shot using body doubles.
The film opened to negative reviews but It was a surprise box-office success, becoming the third-highest-grossing film of 1983 in the United States.
The soundtrack, compiled by Giorgio Moroder, spawned several hit songs, including todays songwhich was written for the film by Moroder, with lyrics by Keith Forsey and the singer Irene Cara.

A carnival of colour
It’s not too late to enter Erewash in Bloom, the council’s flagship gardening competition. The annual event run by Erewash Borough Council, closes on Friday 2 July so residents still have time to get their applications in either online or by post.

Postal entries are accepted and can be posted to: Erewash in Bloom, Merlin House, Merlin Way, Ilkeston, Derbyshire DE7 4RA. Please include your name, contact details and which category you are entering.

Unlike previous years where judges visited the gardens of finalists, this time entrants will be asked to submit five photographs per category through an online entry form. There are 11 categories for residents, community groups, businesses and schools to choose from, with the final judging by a virtual panel taking place in August.

The top three entrants in six of the categories, including best front garden and tallest sunflower, will receive cash prizes or vouchers. There will be certificates and trophies for the winners in the other five categories.

Residents can enter using the online form at www.erewash.gov.uk/erewashinbloom
where photographs for each category can be uploaded. Entries close on Friday 2 July.

They are running drop-in clinics for people to receive their first dose of Covid-19 vaccine today at Long Eaton Health Centre and also in Ilkeston.
Anyone who lives in Erewash and is aged 18 or over can go for their vaccine between 9:00am and 12:30pm.
There is no need to book an appointment. This will be the Pfizer vaccine only, and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

They look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to our drop-in clinics, and will look at scheduling more if these are successful.”

An exhibition celebrating the last 15 years of the Erewash Festival of Light has opened at Erewash Museum’
It features an array of fascinating photographs of families enjoying the many popular events including Diwali, the Christmas Lights switch-on in Ilkeston and Long Eaton.

Visitors can also experience the all new, ‘A Touch of History’ educational boxes; a fun resource designed around major events in the Festival of Light calendar and include ‘festival-themed’ objects to handle and learn from.
The exhibition runs until 31 July.

The museum’s opening times are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 10.30am and 3pm with admission by advance booking only to ensure the safety of everyone. The well-being of visitors is paramount and a range of COVID-19 safety measures are in place at the museum.

A Partnership Event
This is being held on-line on Wednesday 30th June from 2:00pm to improve awareness and management of diabetes.

It is for anyone living in Derbyshire who is at risk of developing diabetes, have recently been diagnosed or who would like to find out about reducing personal risk of developing diabetes.

There will be a series of presentations from local services which will highlight the risks associated with diabetes, the 4 T’s to be aware of as a predictor of seeking help from your GP and also the psychological impact of receiving a diagnosis and how you can seek help from local talking therapy services. Everyone who attends will receive a FREE e-toolkit that contains all the information from the presentation

A half day festival (1:00pm to 3:30pm) is being staged to help learn about how you can get back to the new 'normal', dealing with the after effects of working throughout this past 14 months.

Alongside events, walking, picnicking, cycling, canal trips, horse riding and fishing are amongst other possible ways to enjoy the countryside sites. The pandemic has shown how important open spaces and fresh air are for our mental and physical wellbeing, but County Council officials are asking people to enjoy the great outdoors responsibly and leave barbecues at home due the risk of

National Child Safety Week

More than 500 child safety videos are available to watch online free of charge as part of national Child Safety Week (June 7 to 13).

The move has been prompted by research by ROSPA reveals that 67,000 children a year have accidents in the kitchen alone and they identify that inexperience, inquisitiveness, bravado and horseplay being amongst the main reasons for such incidents.

Each video shows a situation that might have dangerous consequences for a child – at home, outside the home and online.
