to seek what selfish hearts require,
to claim a freedom apart from God,
and take what all their eyes desire.

But freedom has a steady course.
It cannot change but comes from He
Who is the one and only source
To proclaim and set the captives free.

WHAT DOES FREEDOM MEAN TO YOU?

I looked across a war-torn land and saw a bloody field.
A battle had once raged there, neither side would yield.
Each had heard, Keep up the fight, Freedom at any cost!
But at war’s end none were left to count all the lives lost.

They never knew the freedom they fought so hard to claim,
Or how men would often change it to suit their selfish aim.
Only one freedom lasts forever no matter the day or how grim.
It’s the freedom freely given when we commit to follow Him.

FREEDOM DEMANDS WE SHARE IT

The cry for freedom has been raised far and wide,
From the largest of cities to the vast countryside.
Freedom from control and being told what to do,
Yet the stroke of a pen can take it away from you.

But there’s a freedom not due to any man’s hand,
And not just for the people of one nation or land.
It’s freedom from sin that seeks death in the dust,
And offered by Jesus...the only One we can trust.

DO YOU HAVE FREEDOM FROM SIN?

This world has become a very dark place,
Filled with the noise of greed and anger.
Old men bring death and fear to each face,
Starting their wars regardless the danger.

But in the darkness there shines a Light,
Who offers His love to replace all our fear,
Who grants us strength to conquer the night,
Who gives eyes that see and ears that hear.

YOU HAVE GOD’S ATTENTION…NOW HEAR HIM!

Disappointments gather through the day
Like clouds blocking the rays of the son.
And frustration draws near along the way
As I grow more weary as each step is done.

But when you turn and your eyes meet mine,
Suddenly nothing in the world is a bother
For my greatest joy in you is never so fine
As hearing you shout, “Hey, Heavenly Father!”

Evil prowls around like a lion
searching for lives to destroy
Entangling them in trouble and sin
It seeks to crush all of their joy

Helpless I cry, “Oh dear Lord,
I can’t escape this horrible day.”
But then I find Your hand in mine
And you tell me, “I’ll make a way.”

BELIEVE GOD WILL UNTANGLE YOUR MESS?

The world denies there is a God.
“A myth,” its arrogant people claim.
And wherever God’s own people trod,
The world mocks to bring them shame.

Yet in worship when voices lift in praise,
The mocking crowd will see them there.
And they’ll witness hearts united raise
Their hands to Him who’ll hear and care.

EVER FEEL HOPELESS LIKE A CHAINED PRISONER?

The Sower did come and sow His seed,
But not just the seed we’ve often heard.
For what He sowed met our deepest need,
Not a bit of grain nor a person, but a word.

A word that would change heart and mind
By the message it carried for all to hear
A message to make hardened hearts kind
And draw people together, far and near.

WHY WERE THE SOWER’S SEEDS IMPORTANT?

The Sower came and sowed His seeds,
Scattering them far across the old earth.
Some grew among thorns, some in weeds,
Some in good soil that gave them rebirth.

But some of the seeds He came to sow,
Fell alongside the long hardened way,
Where they sat, doing nothing to grow
And their journey ended that very day.

SCATTERED DOESN’T MEAN WITHOUT PURPOSE

We scan the reports with all good intent
to make sure that our harvest has grown.
And if there’s no gain we soon lament,
“It’s the worst time we’ve ever known.”

We ignore the souls of those who remain,
All their hurt, their grief, and their need.
And worship is just something we feign
We are lost and have forgotten the seed.

ARE NUMBERS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT?

Writing is a journey of discovering who we are,
Guiding and leading us to who we can become.
It spurs our imagination and can take us so far
That we find the source where life flows from.

New life that builds up and makes others strong,
That shares and cares and makes the weak heard.
It can spread love and set right all that is wrong,
And to bring such hope, it begins with a word.

OFTEN THE ONE HOLDING US BACK…IS US

God softly speaks to some in their dreams,
To others He gently whispers in the wind.
He chooses the best way for each, so it seems,
To get our attention for the message He’ll send.

He wants to tell us of the life we should live
And the river of love that runs far and deep.
His heart longs to share peace only He can give,
So He calls, “Awake, there’s no time to sleep.”

WHERE DO YOU GO WHEN YOU CAN’T SLEEP?

Still trying to make it on your own,
Making choices as though it’s all about you?
Thought by now you’d finally grown
To see it’s not about the one but about the two.

As Jesus calls us to live out His life,
He changes our focus to a sister and a brother.
The world is filled with so much strife,
To make it through we must lean on one another.

STILL TRYING TO MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN?

One voice says, “Only believe what you see.
And ignore all else that’s beyond your sight.
If you cannot touch it, well then just let it be
You’re smart enough to know what is right.”

Yet another whispers, “You have a choice.
Trust in me or allow such seeds to be sown.
I’m always with you, just follow my voice.”
Then I realized that first voice was my own.

STILL WAITING ON PROOF YOU CAN SEE AND FEEL?

No one is perfect or understands all,
Except Jesus who came here to save.
And yet even to you He issued the call
To always be loving, gentle and brave.

For people must see Him alive in your life.
It’s not up to others, whatever their deeds.
This Family of God is so broken by strife,
And you are exactly what this Family needs.

EVER FOCUS MORE ON OTHERS’ FLAWS THAN YOUR OWN?

The days are dark with fear and dread. My life is cursed, so it’s been said
By those who stroll the farther side, who called, “My friend,” through lips that lied.
My strength is weak, I hardly see…the love from Him who died for me.

It’s in the of where I will find He lives within my heart and mind,
To lead me through my darkest night and to good hope beyond my sight.
His strength’s enough, and now I see…the love of Him who died for me.

HOPE IS CERTAIN IN THE LOVE OF GOD!

Each and every day as we walk with God,
He longs to encourage, building each of us up.
For He well knows the path each of us trod
And that trials await as we drink from His cup.

The world fills with discouragement and fear
That seeks to silence His true promise of love.
Yet He’s always with us and aways draws near.
We have only to listen to His words from above.

BEEN SO DISCOURAGED YOU COULD NOT HEAR GOD?

Jesus made clear to all who would hear
That He alone is the One we must follow.
Yet do we still cling to want such a thing,
Or do our claims of Christian ring hollow?

For though we are free, can anyone see
That we care for our sister and brother?
Have we given up all to answer His call
That as He loved us, to love one another.

EVER MET NOT SO CHRISTIAN...CHRISTIANS?

How often we hear what itching ears long for,
Ignoring the truth of what our Master has said.
We crave an easier life, and a wide open door,
Though neither are promised in all I have read.

Yet He has made a promise, both clear and true,
Not to our flesh but to our souls He spoke first.
“Drink of my water and receive life that is new,
Life that’s eternal, and no more shall you thirst.”
