My opponents for Mayor will simply tout “building more housing” as the only way to make housing more affordable. But this offers NO immediate solutions to those struggling to afford their home. Energy costs are also on the rise, leaving even less money for people to spend enjoying .

I would amend the 421-a tax code to first help small landlords create more housing stock, as many people have extra space they’d like to retrofit for rentals. Developers who build a high rise next to the home you have been paying on for years will receive a 40 year tax abatement, while you see tax increases.

The city can incentivize building new housing, but not when developers get away with listing $3500 1 bed room units as “affordable” in new builds.

Not to mention, the “City of Yes” only creates 80,000 new units in 15 years..? This was the best option?! The answer is no: it was a “land grab” for corporate developers.

Working families need relief now. Not 15 years from now.
