“We Got That Fire” is my homage to New Jersey’s beautiful culture, diverse geography, and rich hip-hop legacy. It’s an anthem that pays respect to the flame of innovation sparked by our musical legends.Jersey often doesn’t get the credit and recognition it deserves. We catch a lot of unwarranted criticism, thanks to unfair stereotypes and goofy, exaggerated media depictions. I love living here, and am unabashedly proud to call this state my home. The mountains, the shore, NYC, Philly, are all within easy reach. I appreciate it all: The diversity of cultures, great food, beautiful sunsets, and the eclectic, vibrant musical scene, from hip-hop to R&B to rock to jazz to soul. And so, hot on the heels of “Dark City Anthem”, where I showed my love for Asbury Park, We Got That Fire” continues that tradition and illustrates my love and pride of the Garden State where I came up and continue to make my home.Coming to YouTube, Spotify, and all streaming platforms on Friday, November 29! And coming December 20, the album…Class of ‘97. Jersey stand up!#thestylesreport #wegotthatfire #classof97 #jerseyhiphop
The GOAT Denzel Washington shares his thoughts on the Tyson-Paul fight, working with a monkey in Gladiator II, and turning 70 on Late Night With Jimmy Kimmel.I love watching Denzel do interviews as his charm, humor and humility always shine through brilliantly. This man is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs. 🫡
The wonderful Karyn White with a phenomenal performance of her hit “Secret Rendevous”, live from Chicago’s City Winery. This small snippet is just a microcosm of a tremendous half hour set - it’s out there on YT and as usual I highly recommend watching the whole thing.Karyn hasn’t lost a single step since ‘88. That high kick in the skin tight vinyl? Lord have mercy 😮💨. As illustrated here, Karyn was, is, and forever shall be a superwoman of the art and culture. #thestylesreport #karynwhite #secretrendevous
The great Patrice Rushen reminds us why she is often sampled but never duplicated in this fine performance of “Remind Me”, excerpted from a set from the New Morning venue in Paris, France. From her early days as a jazz prodigy to becoming an R&B hitmaker, arranger and composer, Patrice has been serving up musical excellence for decades. Her skills on the keys, smooth vocals and legendary songwriting illustrate why Patrice is such a respected figure in musical history. #thestylesreport #patricerushen #remindme
Rest in peace to Tony Todd, a stellar actor who commanded the screen and stage across genres - from the honorable Klingon Kurn to the sinister, seductive Candyman to the enigmatic William Bludworth, to Darkseid to Venom to Dracula and 100 other roles. His distinctive deep voice, paired with his charismatic stage presence and imposing 6’5” frame made him a one of a kind talent, an icon of horror, sci-fi and fantasy, and a formidable dramatic actor. R.I.P. and thank you Mr. Todd, an avenging angel forever and always 🫡 #tonytodd #riptonytodd #thestylesreport
I’m proud to present this preview of “Dark City Anthem”, my new track that pays homage to my hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey, as well as the golden age of hip-hop sound that has been so profoundly influential on my life. From taping songs off 98.7 Kiss FM as a kid to creating my own music with my brothers in Black Wizard…this was the place where I developed and cultivated the love for hip-hop, R&B and soul that I celebrate on #TheStylesReport today.A.P. has had a complex history, filled with both cultural and musical vibrancy and a legacy of socioeconomic challenges. Its nickname of "Dark City" originated due to the blackouts the city suffered in the 60s, and was cemented by the post-riot urban decay experienced by the city in the latter half of the 20th century. Through it all, its diverse communities have risen up and stood tall despite marginalization, oppression, and urban blight. Accordingly, #DarkCityAnthem is a journey through those gritty, soulful streets and our community’s resilient spirit through decades of struggle and renewal. This track is dedicated to the dreamers, the hustlers, the artists, the scholars, the entrepreneurs - everyone who came up in Dark City as part of Asbury’s beautiful, bittersweet story. Today, as the city experiences a physical and cultural resurgence, we remember what it took for us to get here and where we have yet to go. If you love A.P. and bleed blue share the news - out on Spotify, YouTube and everywhere else on October 31st! #DarkCity #AsburyPark we stand tall!
