If anyone is wondering why we've been out of action for a while, my family (both immediate and extended) has had a super rough patch and I've been struggling to get by. Not only did my dear father (and one of Open Records' biggest fans) pass away in August last year, but my partner Kirsti has been struggling with a serious, chronic health condition. I'm currently fundraising to help us get through the next tough period, if any of the Open family can lend a hand in any way it's greatly appreciated and will mean we can get back to doing what we do a lot sooner. Around two years ago, my beautiful partner Kirsti was rushed to hospital with severe abdominal and pelvic pain and underwent surgery for a burst hemorrhagic cyst and blocked appendix. This marked the beginning of my bright, bubbly and happy love’s life being all but ruined by severe, chronic and inescapable pain, forcing her to stop working and spend most of her days at home. Many months and countless doctors and hospital visits later, she underwent another round of surgery in September 2023, this time for endometriosis.
The endometriosis was widespread and extremely painful, both before the surgery and afterwards. Some people are able to return to normal lives after the surgical procedure, but unfortunately for Kirsti it was not the case. She remained in great pain and was unable to work for a long period and when she finally mustered the courage to return to her career in November 2023, the pain returned in a serious way and she was again forced to take extended leave in February as she was unable to make it through the day without serious pain, nausea and chronic vomiting towards the end of her shifts.
We sought the best help we possibly could, at great expense. After seeing the top endometriosis specialist in Australia, he discovered not only does Kirsti have patches of this horrible condition that the last surgeon missed, but seized muscles and nerves in her pelvic floor and abs from repeated surgeries and scans. Her journey to recovery is a long one and includes seeing gynaecologists, pain specialists, specialist physios, doctors and the very real possibility of another surgery in three months' time if the condition doesn’t improve.
Kirsti is in constant pain, unable to spend too much time on her feet and spends most of her time at home. I am currently caring for her as best I can while working full time. We are currently a single income household and are unable to receive any government benefits to assist with the costs. Medication, medical bills and associated costs are hitting between $400-600 a week at the moment and it’s getting very difficult to afford the care she needs. The public system’s waitlists are so long we are forced to seek private care if Kirsti has any hope of returning to work and normal life in any kind of reasonable time.
If anyone is able to assist us in any way to help Kirsti get back to health, work and the bubbly, happy beautiful human she is when she’s not dealing with severe, chronic pain, we would be eternally grateful. All funds raised will go towards essential medical care and if there is anything remaining, paying down some of the debts we’ve wracked up getting this far into her journey.
