Our mission is to produce quality children’s books that can instill a love of reading in children and that will delight readers of all ages. The seeds for The Book Hill were first sown in 2011 when Scott Hill had an idea for a children’s book about a girl who loved to help her dad. Although the story was soon finished through the writing talents of one of his daughters, he did not immediately ente
rtain thoughts of publishing it until about a year later when he enlisted the help of an old friend to illustrate it. Soon after, a chance encounter with a member of his old church youth group revealed that this acquaintance owned a self-publishing company. Scott informed him of his own idea for a picture book, and they soon began to work toward publishing it. The print-on-demand process used by the self-publishing industry required a vertical format, but the illustrations in Lily Helps Her Dad were horizontal. It would therefore cost much more than they had originally anticipated. Thus, Scott had a choice: find a traditional publisher for the book, or continue pursuing self-publishing using an offset printer to print the books in their original format. Since he had already been working toward the latter, he decided to continue his current path, but this time as his own self-publisher, that is, the one responsible for every aspect of the process. All that was left was to name the company. The idea soon occurred to include his last name in the title, and thus The Book Hill was born.
