The Ukraine deal and why some are referring to the terms as extortion and new age colonialism

Taken from the article....
"It seems the Trump administration has reneged on the previous 'minerals agreement' and is back to good ol' fashioned extortion & colonialism. While the previously agreed arrangement would have seen Ukraine and the US form a joint venture where new resource operations would have paid into a fund that reinvests in Ukraine's development, the new demands aims to have 'sweeping control Ukraine’s critical minerals and energy assets, while offering Kyiv no security guarantees in return'

- It would apply to all mineral resources, including oil and gas
- New or existing, public or privately owned
- US would have a veto and 3-to-2 voting on decisions
- Veto would also allow the US to prohibit Ukrainian business with other countries
- US would get first right on resources and not fair market bidding
- Same for reconstruction contracts
- US would get all profits from the fund, no splitting
- Terms last forever, with Ukraine paying 4% interest on Biden-era aid of $100 billion
- The deal offers no security guarantees or ties to future military assistance

"Senior Ukrainian officials said the proposal could undermine their nation’s sovereignty, route profits abroad and deepen its dependence on Washington," and three officials said the deal was unlikely to happen now. One said the new US draft proposal is “unfair”, while another likened it to “robbery”. In Paris on Thursday, Zelenskyy said the US was “constantly” changing the terms of the agreement.

It appears that the threat of cutting off aid emboldened US negotiators to return to their previous extreme demands, or are intentionally proposing such bad terms to give cause to cut off Ukraine and work with Russia directly. In recent days, US officials have been open to lifting sanctions on Russia despite the lack of a ceasefire, and have even called on Europe to do the same.

Ever looked up where we rank now and how we've changed since this clip? I looked it up, I wanted to know if it's projected to get better anytime soon
Well I asked Google and Ai & Got some conflicting answers. But what remained true in both models was that we were nowhere near #1 😔 except when it came to # of incarcerated individuals we're # 1. We're # 2 in the world for exports and # 3 for labor force. From to for median household.
According to Google infant mortality has gotten much better ( from #178 to #33). Science has gotten better( from #22 to #10), but your life expectancy has gotten less ( #49 expected to be #66) Literacy has gotten way worse ( from to ) and math is in a steady decline going from to #28.
Talk about things that make you wonder...I feel like we don't focus enough on these numbers. "Which way did he go george, which way did he go".

Russia appears to say no

It appears Russia is rejecting Trump's "30-day ceasefire" proposal, as most expected.

Yuri Ushakov, Putin's envoy who had spoken to US national security advisor Waltz, outlined their response: "I stated our position that this is nothing other than a temporary respite for the Ukrainian military, nothing more," Ushakov said. "It gives us nothing. It only gives the Ukrainians an opportunity to regroup, gain strength and to continue the same thing," he later added.

Ushakov said Moscow's goal was still the "legitimate interests of our country and our well-known concerns."

Reuters reported that Russia was sticking to its 'well-known' demands: international recognition of all regions it (partially) occupies, including Ukrainian-held cities; no foreign peacekeepers to prevent a renewed invasion, or NATO membership; and likely further ridiculous demands such as making russian an official language and religion in Ukraine, Ukraine's military standing down, and so on.

Is Russia really agreeing news reports suggest otherwise

Russia doesn't appear keen to the 30 day cooldown.

Russian State Duma Deputy Sobolev just announced "A temporary ceasefire, the president also spoke about this, is unacceptable.”

“The US will rearm Ukraine in 30 days of ceasefire and start the war anew - Russia will not go for it. I think that this is completely unacceptable."

Is there a deal to stop the war in Ukraine?

Is there a deal to stop the war in Ukraine?

Ukraine's government has announced it will accept a 30-day ceasefire, and in return the US will resume intelligence sharing and security assistance. The ball is in Russia's court.

Mike Waltz also stated "We discussed the guarantees that Ukraine will have for long-term security"

It remains to be seen if Russia will accept such a ceasefire, as Ukraine still occupies part of the Kursk region, and has been conducting successful counterattacks in the east, regaining ground in cities such as Toretsk.

full statement:
"Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept the U.S. proposal for the immediate implementation of a temporary 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, provided it is accepted and simultaneously implemented by the Russian Federation. The United States will convey to Russia that reciprocity on its part is key to achieving peace.

The United States is immediately lifting the pause on intelligence sharing and resuming security assistance to Ukraine."
