SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR • There lived in San Francisco a certain Vasily Nikoleyevich, whose horror regarding the state of the world was well known and much discussed in the bars, cafés and music halls of Mission Prospekt. Now, on the brink of the 2008 financial crisis, we find the young man unwashed, unemployed, alone except for the company of his increasingly unhinged father—and the visitations of an archangel of apocalyptic beauty. Is it salvation, the End of Days, or just another degenerate s*x fantasy? Jen Burke Anderson applies a layer of hallucinatory strangeness to modern despair and anomie in this darkly comic work of "Dostoevsky fan fiction."...

The Old World charm of the City masks an urban labyrinth with no exits, and shadows with strange, shivering depths. It's a place where museum visits and walking tours provide cover for a clandestine mission that's more like a waking dream — rife with unsigned letters, surreptitious communiques, disquieting glimpses, and the elusive hope of escape. This unique, limited-edition chapbook features lush, deep-noir urban photography by Daniel Hintz, and was translated from the Bulgarian by Peter Bachev....

We are *thrilled* to share that Sciascia DeKay's dark fantasy "Kazti Girls" has been nominated by the jurors of the 2023 Shirley Jackson Awards in their Short Fiction category! CONGRATULATIONS, Sciascia!

"They have a tradition in the City of Azturaj of inviting Kazti girls into their homes to celebrate the year’s end ..."

There are no easy answers in Dutch author Sciascia DeKay’s strange parable of ritualized injustice in a prosperous fantasy city. Recalling Ursula K. Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,” DeKay’s unusual narrative explores the tension between cherished traditions, institutionalized abuse, and the earnest, impotent gestures of those who would try to make amends for wounds that strike too deep.
