Did you know today is Earth Day? A day when the whole world celebrates the importance of caring for the planet.

It is a topic that comes up regularly in The Homeworker, especially as many small and home-based businesses and employees want to become more sustainable.

Not just to be seen to be doing the right thing but because it can deliver a real competitive advantage.

We interviewed sustainability consultant Alex Hughes all about how to become more sustainable as a business.

Her interview is in the latest print edition (volume 5) - and the webinar we recorded, where she shares all her expertise, is inside The Subscribers Lounge.

Take a read of why sustainability is no longer a buzz word but can really propel your business forward and give you a leading edge.

If hybrid is the future, how do you make it work well for you?

I know a lot of homeworkers work from home full time - but you may have started heading back to the office now and again - or even a coworking space for a bit of a break from home and to see other people.

Next Thursday, 25th April, I will be live with Jon Kent, founder of intheOffice to chat about hybrid working.

We will ask:
❓What is the office and its role today?
❓When should you get out and use the ‘office’?
❓How do you strike the best balance for yourself?
❓What do managers and remote teams need to think about with a hybrid working model?

If you are at all interested in current working practices and how they may affect you when it comes to hybrid work and remote working, Jon will share his insights and perspectives.
It is a free live webinar so do join us and bring any questions.

How will you spend your screen free time today?
A reminder as our working day often involves screens- and our evenings may well involve a larger screen too! It’s so easy to drift from one device to another, always looking down, never out.
Taking a break from a screen can lead to breakthroughs for your business.
The more we remember to stop, pause, and disconnect for a while, the more we start to let our brains rest, our minds wander, and ideas to percolate.
When we are pressured to be always on, always scrolling, always available, we lose the simple joys and importance of laughing with friends, being in nature, hearing birds singing, and moving our bodies. We start to overload, overwhelm and fatigue our brains. These are the things that will benefit your mind, body and business more than hours sitting, looking at a screen.
How will you spend your screen free time today?

Here it is - the full article with our interview with .thomas for this International Women’s Day.

It starts with her own story that saw her living in a constant state of burnout, trying to live up to society’s expectations that we should work like a man and still be a present mum and devoted housewife at home.

I am not your typical 'tech business' but these days, pretty much all businesses use tech!

I enjoyed chatting with Paul for this podcast, looking at how things have changed for The Homeworker - and how we work - and sharing some of the story behind it.

If you are interested in tech and how businesses are using and developing it. - this is a great podcast with many guests - a lot more 'techy' than I am!

Paul Essery talks with Homeworker CEO Louise Goss about using technology to help people thrive when they work from home.

We are often told to step out of our comfort zone to get results.
It can feel like too much of a risk.
But with ambition being our theme this quarter, an element of risk is often needed to reach our goals.
We are taking ‘risks’ everyday. It might be that your risk is simply sending an email or voicing an opinion. When things feel a little scary, the potential rewards are often greater.
But what does risk look like in reality?
Coach, leadership consultant and communications strategist knows all about taking risks - but it doesn’t always mean a big leap away from your comfort zone.
Her article is in the latest issue, ambition, looking at the different zones of risk, and sharing her story of when the comfort zone might be the safest place. Link in stories. www.thehomeworker.com/blog

Can you still get ahead, be ambitious and highly achieving when you work from home?

🚨 Spoiler alert.

Yes. You can.
It’s the question we asked in the latest issue of The Homeworker because if you were to go by recent headlines, recent calls by certain people to get back to the office, you’d be forgiven for thinking those who work from home, sit around twiddling their thumbs in their pyjamas.
There are things you can do to help yourself when you work from home.
These are linked to:
🏡 Trust
🏡 Communication
🏡 Motivation
🏡 Visibility
🏡 Your focus and productivity
🏡 Where you spend your time
🏡 Your professional development

We explore all of these with practical tips to help you get the most out of flexible, remote and home working. Read the full article as part of the latest issue, Ambition.

Simple yes or no answers would suffice to these questions, Lord Sugar.
So, while this may be a little tongue in cheek, it does have a serious point.

It was on BBC Breakfast that Lord Alan Sugar derided working from home, while clearly being interviewed remotely himself.

He has previously criticised people working from home as being lazy. Personally, some of the hardest working people I know, work from home.

So - a few simple questions we would want answers to - and to highlight why WFH (while not always a perfect solution), empowers so many people to keep working. Surely that is what we want.

What do you think to his comments?

The one resource packed with advice for your work from home lifestyle

The Homeworker is a quarterly digital magazine for the self-employed, remote workers, freelancers, entrepreneurs running their business from home, for those starting up or just thinking, “Should I?” or “What if…?

It’s for you, sitting at home with your business wondering if what you’re doing is worth it, and if it is making an impact. It’s for you, the homeworker who feels completely isolated because you don’t actually see another person all day. It’s for you, the parent, who is desperate to break free from the 9-5, does not want to return to the office, and wondering if you can turn your passion into profit with your own business. It’s for you, who have those moments of self-doubt, the questioning, the wondering, the believing you’re not quite good enough - or everyone else is better.

If you’ve taken that leap or you are about to, if you are sat working away at your desk, on your sofa, at the kitchen table and wondering if anyone else is feeling exactly the same way, dealing with the same juggles and struggles, then this magazine is for YOU!

Articles and interviews on a range of topics which encompass the work from home lifestyle: the mindset challenges, productivity, accountability, your own wellbeing and self-care, your home office environment and some practical strategies and advice around running a business.
