From Sunday, Dec 29, 2024, several changes will be made to the playlists on our Spotify profile:

1️⃣ Selected music collaborations involving Featured Artists, including tracks from collaborative projects like "brent", will be gradually added to our casual listening playlists (i.e. Indie Artists, Mainstream Artists). This ensures greater accessibility to these tracks, which allows us to stream these songs more intently into 2025.

2️⃣ Existing playlists for the remixed / acoustic versions of original songs by Featured Artists will be discontinued to reduce the administrative complexity in maintaining playlists of songs from Featured Artists.

From Sunday, Dec 29, 2024, existing guidelines on the management of instrumental edits for non-Featured Artists will be removed. As such, instrumental edits for non-Featured Artists will no longer be required to obtain at least 50 views in 2 weeks, in order to be retained on our YouTube channel ().

In addition, the removal of these guidelines will also allow for the curation of more music edits for original songs by additional non-Featured Artists, which can be expected in 2025.

While our increasing burnout over deep diving for more prospective Featured Artists has limited the number of artists we discovered in 2024, we believe that they should still be acknowledged as part of our year in review.

One of several artists we discovered in 2024 itself is Florrie, who was first discovered and evaluated under the Featured Artists framework between Mar 31, 2024 & Jun 22, 2024.

As the evaluation for her debut album "The Lost Ones" closes, we decided to continue our support for her on a long-term basis from Jun 23, 2024. Based on our assessment criteria for Featured Artists, her debut album strikes a good balance between the incorporation of upbeat synth pop production, coupled with introspective lyricism, which effectively showcases her ability to resonate with multiple demographics, from casual music listeners to niche deep divers.

To this end, we look forward to hearing more from her subsequent music releases in 2025.

^A mainstream artist refers to any artist with millions of listeners on music platforms. While there are currently no standardised metrics to classify an artist as mainstream, we generally use the benchmark of over 30 million Spotify monthly listeners as the benchmark to classify mainstream artists.

As Gracie Abrams has exceeded 30 million Spotify monthly listeners in Nov 2024, we have decided to publicly discontinue the provision of her music edits on our YouTube channel (), as per our current guidelines for music edits for non-Featured Artists. This will be effective from Sunday, Dec 8, 2024.

However, viewers who wish to access these music edits may continue to do so through the specific unlisted web links indicated in the infographics below.

07/12/2024

From Sunday, Dec 8, 2024, up to 25 additional artists outside the existing Featured Artists framework will continue to be reviewed under 2 new Spotify playlists:

1️⃣ Artists under Evaluation playlist: This playlist currently facilitates the reviews of up to 10 artists with ongoing music releases to assess their viability for eventual reinstatement under the Featured Artists framework. We have decided to make this playlist public to showcase our efforts to engage with additional artists outside the Featured Artists framework.

2️⃣ "Back Bar" playlist: This playlist will facilitate the long-term reviews of up to 15 artists that were previously evaluated under the Featured Artists framework, but are currently determined to be unviable as Featured Artists. Artists in this playlist include those who have already released a project in 2024, as well as artists with lower metrics on music platforms, but have continuously shown potential in their music releases.

While we strive to support/promote as many artists as realistically possible under the existing Featured Artists framework, we realise that it is not sustainable beyond a certain threshold quantity of artists (i.e. between 20 & 25 artists). Thus, we hope these new playlists will allow us to continue maintaining deeper engagement with a larger pool of artists, without overstretching our limited time and resources to engage with both artists within and outside the Featured Artists framework.

To this end, we have made a conscious decision to refrain from listing the artists that are added to these new playlists here. This refined approach will allow us to make changes to the artists in the playlists where necessary, without the added pressure of announcing such changes publicly, which aims to facilitate a more relaxed process of reviewing these artists from time to time.

However, listeners can still access these playlists through the links below to see which artists are currently included:

From Sunday, Dec 8, 2024, Alfie Jukes will be reinstated as an artist under the Featured Artists framework, with a further review of his 3rd EP "All Dressed Up For Nothing" to be concluded by Saturday, Mar 15, 2025.

His reinstatement as a Featured Artist comes after the strong showing of the 2nd single of his 3rd EP, released on Nov 1, 2024.

On the same day, Alix Page will be discontinued as an artist under the Featured Artists framework. While her singles so far have shown potential, we have decided to continue our further review of her upcoming new music under the Artists under Evaluation playlist, as we await a confirmed project from her.

30/11/2024

In Sep 2024, as part of our efforts to keep track of more indie artists, we increased the total number of Featured Artists to 28.

However, over the past month, it became clear that the amount of time and resources needed to follow the careers of a substantial quantity of artists has reached an unsustainable level, where a slight cutback in Featured Artists is necessary.

Thus, 1 existing Featured Artist will be discontinued from Sunday, Dec 1, 2024:

1️⃣ Clara Mae: The discontinuation of Clara Mae was considered based on the general reception towards her comeback single "The Player" in Aug 2024. While Clara Mae's comeback is well-received, the metrics on "The Player" remains persistently lower than similar indie artists under the Featured Artists framework. Nonetheless, we also remain committed to continue monitoring the career trajectory for Clara, albeit less intensively, outside of the Featured Artists framework, until the release of her sophomore album.
