Shout out to everyone that donated and volunteered ❤️

Our first annual back to school drive went exactly how we planned. It’s Important for all kids and people in general to be Fearless and confident in their approach to whatever they want to do in life so we wanted to make sure they are armed with the tools to do so.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for what there is to come for HELLA Inspired and as I continue to build this media company the mission is always going to remain the same.

“Shirley Chisholm”

If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.

Shirley Chisholm, was born in New York City. She was a pioneering African-American politician and advocate for women and minorities. She grew up in both Barbados and Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor's Degree in 1946. Before entering politics, she served as the director of a childcare center and an education consultant.

In 1964, Chisholm was elected to the New York State Legislature, where she served for four years. Her career continued in 1968 when she became the first African-American woman elected to Congress, representing New York’s 12th District. Chisholm served in the United States House of Representatives for seven terms, from 1968 to 1983 (91st-97th Congresses).

During her tenure in Congress, Chisholm was an effective advocate for minorities, women, and children. She served on the Education and Labor, Rules, and Veterans Affairs committees and co-founded the Congressional Black Caucus and the National Political Congress of Black Women. Chisholm supported the Equal Rights Amendment, fought to legalize abortions, and was a co-founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW).

In 1972, she became the first African-American woman to run for President of the United States. Despite being blocked from participating in televised primary debates and having limited resources, she garnered 152 delegates' votes. Chisholm faced significant discrimination, with many dismissing her candidacy as a publicity stunt and doubting her seriousness due to her race and gender. She ran to challenge these views and to pave the way for future candidates from marginalized groups. Her campaign aimed to show that the presidency should be open to everyone, regardless of race or gender, and to push the country toward greater inclusivity. Chisholm believed that her candidacy, even if not successful, would make it easier for future women, Black individuals, and other minorities to be taken seriously in their bids for the highest office.

"Cash Money Records"

The Magnolia Projects, one of the largest and poorest housing projects in New Orleans, was home to Birdman and his brother Slim. Birdman was drawn to the allure of the streets, inspired by the fly, iced up hustlers around the neighborhood. Recognizing the poverty and lack of opportunities in Magnolia, he desired more. Hustling became second nature, and the fast money from selling drugs got him respected.

Slim, on the other hand, was the quiet, laid-back one with a sharp business mind, always thinking about ways to make money. Together, Birdman's hustling instincts and Slim's business acumen drove their pursuit of independence.

As hip-hop exploded across the United States in the '80s, regions adopted elements suited to their local culture. The brothers saw an opportunity to enter the hip-hop scene. Inspired by Master P's success, they studied the industry and, in 1992, launched their own record label, Cash Money Records. They traveled to nightclubs across Louisiana, scouting for talent to sign.

Before the internet and SoundCloud, getting new hip-hop artists noticed required significant legwork and investment. Birdman claims that by the age of twenty, he had already made a million dollars from the streets. In 1995, Cash Money artist Lil’ Slim introduced a then 12 year old Dwayne Carter (Lil Wayne) to Birdman after being impressed by his talent at a block party. Dwayne was signed as the youngest artist on the Cash Money label.

In 1998, Cash Money Records signed a $30 million deal with Universal Records. For most of the 2000s, Lil Wayne was the best rapper, with his 2008 album, Tha Carter III, rated as one of the best albums of all time.

The subsidiary label, Young Money Entertainment, also began making waves by the late 2000s. By the 2010s, Drake and Nicki Minaj earned widespread success with albums like Pink Friday and Take Care.

Lil Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj became one of hip-hop’s most famous trios. Although none of them are with the label today, their names are forever etched in its history.

“Dr. Dre”

From taking the stage as Dr. Dre in the early 80s, André Young's journey in music began as a hip-hop DJ and member of World Class Wreckin’ Cru, performing at clubs and parties in LA's south-central district. In 1986, he co-founded N.W.A (N***** Wit Attitudes) with Eazy-E and Ice Cube, giving a voice to the streets with raw and unapologetic lyrics. Their second album, Straight Outta Compton (1988), sold over 2 million copies and pioneered the gangsta rap genre, notably with the controversial track 'F*** tha Police,' which even drew a warning letter from the FBI.

In 1992, Dre left N.W.A to co-found Death Row Records with Suge Knight, hitting the top of the charts with his debut solo album The Chronic. This album introduced G-funk, blending funk samples with gangsta rap, inspired by acts like Parliament and Funkadelic. Dre’s production talents shone through in Snoop Dogg’s Do******le (1993) and Tupac Shakur’s All Eyez on Me (1996).

After leaving Death Row in 1996, Dre formed Aftermath Records. His second solo album, 2001 (1999), was another massive success, featuring the Grammy-winning single 'Forgot About Dre.' He signed and produced for major artists like Eminem and 50 Cent, cementing his status as a top producer.

In 2008, Dre expanded his brand by founding Beats Electronics with Jimmy Iovine. The debut of Beats by Dr. Dre Studio headphones was a hit, making waves in the audio industry. The 2014 acquisition of Beats by Apple for $3 billion made Dre one of the richest rap stars, with an estimated net worth of $800 million, and secured executive roles for him and Iovine at Apple.

Dr. Dre has stated that he is a perfectionist, and is known to pressure the artists with whom he records to give flawless performances.

“Issa Rae”

Issa Rae, hailing from Los Angeles, California, began her journey to prominence with a major in African and African American studies at Stanford University. During her undergraduate years, she produced a successful stage adaptation of Spike Lee’s “”School Daze”” and created the popular mockumentary web series “”Dorm Diaries,”” exploring the lives of Black college students.

After graduating in 2007, Rae received a fellowship at the Public Theater in New York and continued her web series ventures, including “”Fly Guys Present ‘The F Word’”” (2009). In 2011, she released “”The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl,”” a web series addressing the lack of representation of regular Black girls on television, earning widespread acclaim and a Shorty Award in 2012.

This success led Rae to develop a pilot with Shonda Rhimes for ABC in 2013, titled “I Hate L.A. Dudes,” but the project ultimately did not materialize as she envisioned. Undeterred, she cofounded Color Creative in 2014, aimed at promoting women and minority writers in web series production.

In 2014, Rae was hired by HBO to create “Insecure” which premiered in 2016. The series, starring Rae herself, depicts the life of her self-named character and her best friend navigating professional and love lives as Black women in Los Angeles. Rae’s role in ”Insecure” earned her numerous accolades, including Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Alongside her work on “Insecure” Rae has ventured into acting in feature films, television shows, and music videos. Beyond her creative endeavors, she is an advocate for representation and has invested in the development of South Los Angeles, addressing the impacts of discriminatory policies like redlining and underfunding.

Issa Rae’s multifaceted career spans acting, creating, producing, directing, and business.

“Serena Williams”

Serena Jameka Williams, born on September 26, 1981, in Saginaw, Michigan. Under the guidance of her parents, who taught her the game, Williams started intensive training in Compton, California, alongside her sister Venus, beginning at a young age. By 1991, she ascended to the top spot in the 10-and-under division of the junior United States Tennis Association tour.

In 1995, at 14 years old, Williams made her professional debut but didn’t gain significant traction until 1997 when she climbed to the 99th spot in the world rankings. The following year, she surpassed Monica Seles to become the fastest player to achieve five victories against Top 10 players.

Upon graduating from Driftwood Academy in 1999, Williams clinched her maiden Grand Slam title at the U.S. Open and secured a lucrative endorsement deal with Puma. In 2001, she faced her sister Venus in the U.S. Open final, marking a historic moment in tennis history.

The Williams sisters’ impact transcended the sport, revolutionizing tennis with their athleticism and distinctive style. Their dominance as doubles partners yielded 14 Grand Slam titles and Olympic gold medals in 2000, 2008, and 2012, establishing them as the most successful doubles team in Olympic history. Williams once held all four Grand Slam titles simultaneously, she called it the “The Serena Slam.”

“Zora Neale Hurston”

Zora Neale Hurston, born in Notasulga, Alabama on January 7, 1891, overcame a legacy of enslavement to become a pivotal figure in American literature. Raised in Eatonville, Florida, she benefited from her father’s position as one of the town’s first mayors. After attending Howard University, she received a scholarship to Barnard College in 1925, earning a BA in anthropology. In New York City, she became associated with the Harlem Renaissance, befriending prominent writers such as Langston Hughes and Countee Cullen.

Hurston dedicated herself to studying and promoting black culture, conducting research in Haiti and Jamaica on African diaspora religions. Despite facing neglect from mainstream literary circles, her works, including “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” garnered attention within African American communities for their portrayal of black women’s experiences.

Hurston’s impact extended beyond literature; she established a school of dramatic arts at Bethune-Cookman College in 1934 and later taught at the North Carolina College for Negroes. Despite her contributions, financial struggles plagued her throughout her life, leading to her eventual placement in a welfare home. She passed away on January 28, 1960, initially laid to rest in an unmarked grave until author Alice Walker provided a marker in 1972. Hurston’s enduring legacy solidifies her position as one of the 20th century’s most influential writers, continuing to inspire writers worldwide.
