One of the biggest (if not the biggest, certainly in the top 3) birding festivals in the country is in our own backyard. The 30th Annual Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival begins Wednesday, November 8th at the Harlingen Convention Center. Nearly 500 participants will be met by 56 guides, 58 Vendors and 100 volunteers. Over 1000 entries have already been judged in the RGVBF Art, Writing and Photography contests.

According to the RGVBF post festival survey in 2021, our participants spent over $500,000 during the festival. The economic impact in Harlingen alone was $1,673,000. This year’s festival numbers are much bigger than they were in 2021.

This year’s festival includes a welcome reception, over 100 field trips, a silent auction, a trade show, a store, art, writing and photography displays, children’s activities, speakers, seminars and much more.

The Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival is also hosting the inaugural Legends of Conservation Gala on Thursday, November 9th.

As always, the RGVBF offers a multitude of free family activities including numerous daily birds of prey flight shows and guided nature walks. Please see the attached flyer for more events and details.

Felicidades al equipo de baloncesto masculino de Roma Gladiators de 1972. El sábado 17 de junio en el Mission Events Center el equipo será incluido en el Salón de Honor del Equipo del Salón de la Fama de los Deportes de Rio Grande Valley.

El baloncesto romaní de 1972 disfrutó de una final de cuatro.

Los Gladiadores de la Roma fueron 36-3 mientras avanzaron todo el camino a las semifinales estatales de Clase 2A en 1972.

Fueron un equipo de alto poder que anotó 100 o más puntos cinco veces ese año. Jesús "Chuy" Guerra lideró a la Roma con 25.2 puntos por partido y ganó el reconocimiento estatal esa temporada.

Otros destacados en los '72 Gladiators incluyen Wenche Garcia y Mike Villarreal.
Guerra fue incluido en el Salón de la Fama de los Deportes RGV en 2000 y en el Salon de la Fama del Atletismo de la Universidad de Texas Rio Grande Valley en 2013.
