Opposition Parties Protest against RSIEC over "Delayed" Election Grants
Less than 48hrs to Saturday's Local Government Election, some opposition parties participating in the poll have accused the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) of denying them of grants needed to prepare adequately for the election.
RSIEC had on Monday clarified that only 17 parties will be participating in the election.
Meanwhile the opposition parties expressed their displeasure with the election umpire when they staged a protest earlier today in Port Harcourt.
The State Chairman of AAC, Hon. Progress Opokoma who spoke to the journalists on behalf of the participating opposition parties said it is worrisome that they are yet to receive the grants less than two days to the election.
"If grants are not given, it means the Election is already baised," he said.
He appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike "as the Father and leader of the state" to intervene and see that the grants are released to them to enable them participate effectively in the poll.
