DEVELOPING:

Police permits Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led members of the Rivers State House of Assembly access to hold valedictory session for late lawmaker, Denebari Loolo.

This is as an Abuja High Court granted an order empowering the Rivers State House of Assembly to perform its constitutional functions unfettered.

Recall the Police had earlier prevented the lawmakers access into the complex this morning.

The order from the Abuja division of the High Court also restrained the Rivers State Government, it's agents or privies from withholding funds for the Assembly, disturbing the Assembly's Clerk & or Deputy Clerk or disrupting the functioning of the State House of Assembly.

LEADERSHIP TUSSLE: Police officers stationed at the entrance of the Rivers State House of Assembly prevented members of the Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule from gaining access into the complex this morning.

The lawmakers who arrived in a bus had planned to hold a Valedictory session for their late colleague who represented Khana Constituency 2 Hon Denebari Loolo.

The 25 lawmakers held plenary yesterday amid heavy security around the complex and elected a new house Leader and Chief Whip.

Their action sparked controversy with some legal practitioners and a section of the Civil Society condemning the sitting due to the pending legal issues surrounding the leadership tussle of the House.

The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has tackled the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, over his projects in the city, saying they are not people-friendly.

Kingibe, while speaking in a viral video on Wednesday, said the minister's plan to roll out public buses would not work, as not only did previous leaders embark on such projects, but these projects also failed.

Responding to Kingibe's views, Wike stated that the previous administration before President Bola Tinubu awarded those projects, adding that it is important that the present administration embarks on the projects to help the people.

There are indications that Lawmakers led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule are allegedly planning to hold a sitting in honour of their late colleague, Hon. Dinebari Loolo who until his demise in September represented Khana Constituency 2.

Sources say the alleged sitting reportedly to hold by noon today is just to honour the lawmaker.

However, this might be against the court order which has mandated that every issue relating to the Rivers State House of Assembly be suspended.

In the meantime, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule led some state Lawmakers to attend the Service of Songs held in honour of the late legislator at the Aztec Events Centre in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.

IMPEACHMENT SAGA: A mild drama played out at the State High Court in Isiokpo as conflicting legal representation delayed the hearing of Governor Sim Fubara's case against the Rivers State House of Assembly which was supposed to commence today.

Two different lawyers allegedly with different briefs and reportedly from the two factional Speakers, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule and Rt. Hon. Ehie Edison had showed up as counsels for the defendant.

The Rivers State Governor had approached the State High Court in Isiokpo to stop the House of Assembly from proceeding with the impeachment processes against him pending hearing and determination of the suit filed before the Court.

The Presiding Judge advised the counsels to go back and resolve on which of the counsels will represent the defendant (The Rivers State House of Assembly) in the suit.

EXCERPTS FROM THE ADDRESS OF THE ACTING RIVERS STATE PDP CHAIRMAN, HON. CHUKWUEMEKA AARON TO STATE EXCO MEMBERS OF THE PARTY, 23 LGA CHAIRMEN AND THE 23 LGA PARTY CHAIRMEN ON THE RIFT BETWEEN GOVERNOR SIM FUBARA AND CHIEF NYESOM WIKE:

I will ensure that peace is restored between our leader and our governor, we have to work together to achieve it.

I have met with the two of them and they have shown interest for peace.

But the things our supporters are writing on social media are not encouraging.

These children that are using social media to fuel crisis in Rivers State come from local government areas , some of them are working with party leaders.

We must call them to order; a child who wishes to become an elder someday must learn not to insult the elders .

We will not allow anybody to insult the minister, just as we'll not also tolerate anyone who insult the governor.

These people talking about Ijaw today were the same people that said that Sim Fubara was an Ikwerre man. They accused Wike of bringing another Ikwerre man to become governor after him through the back door but today they're using the name of Ijaw to balkanize our party. We won't let it happen.

Those of you going behind to see the governor to blackmail others , to cause problem in the party you're not helping us.

We know that some of those fueling the crisis are not members of our party but we must identify and discipline our members who want to balkanize our party.

When I met with the governor, he told me that the Minister is his Oga, but some of you are interested in fueling the crisis but we won't accept it from anybody.

When the father and son reconcile, that your eye service will end.

If you think you want to get anything by fueling crisis, let me tell you the truth, you cannot be empowered under crisis. Nothing works in crisis.

Today we are seeing people who didn't support the governor's election parading themselves as the governor's new supporters with different names .

All these Sim Vanguard , Sim this and Sim that, what are they for; is there any election in the state or is there any bye-election in the state?

Sim is our governor and we worked for his victory, and he won convincingly across the 23 LGAs.

He will serve for complete four years first and after we can come back and talk about the next election.

We are not having any election in the state now, so why the different groups and banners; it’s just to fuel the crisis, while we’re praying for peace.

We are the people that worked for the victory of the governor, and we will not allow anybody to come from the back.

Those saying these ones na Wike people, the other person na Sim people , are those who don’t want peace in the party.

We're supposed to have started sensitization for the next local government election but the issue in the state is the reason why we've not started anything yet.

If the reason you are fueling crisis in the party is to be appointed caretaker, you are wasting your time.

This misunderstanding will be resolved and peace will return and we will all benefit from the victory we worked for. We can't watch those who worked against us during the election take the benefits of our hardwork.

2024 Appropriation Bill: Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, on Friday, presented a budget estimate of over 11 billion Naira to the Legislative Arm of the LGA for consideration and passage.

Christened “BUDGET OF COMPLETION”, Nwanosike said the budget which will help the council complete ongoing projects and initiate new ones will be funded by federal allocations, internally generated revenue as well as valua added tax from the LGA.

In a related development, the Senate also on Friday, asked the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, withhold statutory allocations to local government councils not democratically elected using Caretaker Committee Chairmen.`

The Senate has condemned, in very strong terms, what it described as the arbitrary dissolution of democratically elected Local Government Councils in Benue and other states in Nigeria.

City News findings revealed that about 16 states in the country run their local governments through the caretaker system.
