Ragana&Drowse’s collaborative album “Ash Souvenir” will be out on November 14th. Noel and Kyle share some insights about the gear they used for the recordings.
“This album was my first opportunity to record using my Bhava harmonium and this beautiful Gretsch that my second cousin gave me from his 80s rocker days. Kyle recorded me playing some drones and melodies on the harmonium on his field recorder, then added guitar and synth to create one of the interludes on the album. I used the Gretsch for some of the guitars on In Eternal Woods, along with Maria’s amazing Univox Hi-Flyer knockoff that Ragana uses on all of our recordings.” - Noel
“On Ash Souvenir I played the same Fender Jaguar, Twin Reverb, and old Yamaha classical guitar that used to belong to my father that I use on all Drowse albums. Field recordings (Zoom H6) and Ebow appear frequently on the album. I also used my Ensoniq ESQ-1 synth, various methods of analog and digital signal processing in my home studio, and Ableton Live both live and in studio to trigger and sequence samples including sampled Mellotron. Not pictured: the bass that Nich Wilbur plays in New Issue, which he lent us for overdubs on the album, my pedal board, and my live mixer w/ more pedals.” - Kyle Bates
