East Coast Love Affair is back with a 9-minute epic late-night mid-tempo deep disco chugger featuring Shetland-born and Edinburgh-based R&B singer and songwriter @philomenahhh . Hanna (Philomenah) has done some great backing vocals for ECLA in the past but takes front-and-center Vocal and lyric writing duty on this Epic 12â. Itâs Like a modern-day Onda with a sprinkle of pop.
On the flip two percussive house dub workouts with maybe a little hint of MAW 90s major label work (we have been revisiting these in the club recently) with our usual Athens of the North studio special analog sauce.

Absolute smasher of a two-sider 45 out of Waycross Georgia. The 45 was licenced from original band member Michael George & Tim Gillans with help from DJ @mrbighappy & @quartzwatches . We flipped the sides for the re-issue, the A side now being the more uptempo. âWhat About Loveâ is a melodic spacey floater (you know Iâm a fan already) with a brilliant vocal and top sax break. On the flip, âDream of a ladyâ is an absolute killer downtempo floater, I canât stress enough not to sleep on this side, itâs a textural dreamy wonder.
Sometime in 1984, San Diego native Anthony âAntoneâ Williams found himself sitting alone at Pure Sound Studios, tinkering around with a drum machine. Eventually he landed on a âsinister grooveâ which would lay the propulsive foundation for his hauntingly melodic tour de force, âWindows of My Mind.â Released the following year as a seven-inch single on his own Unity Records label, the song features Antoneâs otherworldly production. Some have referred to the result as âpost punk soul,â but weâll let you be the judge.
Coming up in San Diego in the Seventies, part of an extensive musical family, Antoneâs creative fuse was lit by the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, and the Jackson 5.. At the age of 13, he was performing in area clubs, making a name for himself. By age 22, he had opened his own recording studio, Pure Sound. The influence of Sly and the Family Stone was decisive for Antone, who took to wearing a star-shaped gold necklace, not unlike the one famously worn by Stone on his epochal 1975 LP High on You.
âWindows of My Mindâ was Antone & The Underworldâs sole release. Limited to 500 copies and handed out as a promotional tool for a purported album of the same name, the single didnât get much traction. (A story as old as time.) Perhaps the music was ahead of its time and Antoneâs visionary message will finally sink in 2023. âI didnât want to make a song like Shake Your Bootyâ, he says now. And yet we think that this long-lost record with its âsinister grooveâ is eminently danceable, almost 40 years later. We challenge you to take a listen to this home-grown 1985 7â, remastered directly from the original tape, and make an assessment of your own.

Out now : Our final William Stuckey release unfortunately did not make it on time for the man himself who sadly passed last year, with support of his family we are very happy to do this 45 justice.
The previously unreleased 'Everything That's Good In Life' A Very suitable unreleased track up there with his finest moments, it's got everything that would have made this a classic over the years and no doubt will make it a future classic for years to come, flipped with an alternate 7" Mix of 'Hold Me Close' this is a rock solid 45. You know what to do.
