With the longer days, warmer temperature’s and snow receding across much of the province it is an important reminder that our season doesn’t start until MAY 1st. During this time please avoid using trails, hydro cuts, forest access roads and seasonal roads.
Why are the trails considered closed until May 1st? Well, the period between late fall and early spring is commonly known as the "spring thaw," when the ground is wet and soft due to melting snow and rain. During this time, off-road trails are particularly vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles, such as all-terrain vehicles, 4x4 vehicles and dirt bikes, which can cause soil erosion and disrupt delicate plant and animal habitats. To protect the environment and ensure the safety of trail users, many off-road trails in Ontario are closed before May 1st. It is important to respect these closures to help preserve the natural environment and promote responsible outdoor recreation.
