A timeline of Chris Cairns life:

1989-2006
Glroious career as a NZ cricketer. Emerged as one of the leading all-rounders in world cricket. 62 Tests, 215 ODIs, over 8000 international runs and more than 400 wickets.

2009
Started his diamond business in Dubai

2011-2014
Various match-fixing accusations surrounded Cairns. He sued Lalit Modi for accusatory tweets. Lou Vincent, an admitted match-fixer, stated that Cairns was involved. Brendon McCullum also said Cairns approached him for spot-fixing.

2014
Cairns won the case against Lalit Modi but several number of trials led him to bankruptcy. From being a successful cricketer and a diamond businessman, he was seen driving trucks and washing buses to make ends meet. The same year, he was charged by the court again.

2015
Cairns was adjudged 'not guilty' by court

2021
August 10: Cairns suffered a major heart attack which sent him on life support.

August 20: A successful heart surgery helps him come off the life support.

August 27: Doctors reveal Cairns suffered a stroke in his spine during the surgery. Now he is paralyzed in his legs.

2022: In February, Cairns revealed he has been diagnosed with bowel cancer

Life can be tough and it is hard to see people who were once your cricketing heroes go through such hardships after their retirement. After a heart attack in 2021, he suffered paralysis and cancer in 2022.

His recent Instagram posts suggest he is back on his feet again but it is going to take him another 3-5 years to be free from cancer.

As an all-rounder, Cairns fought through many inures during his career. Now he is doing the same after his retirement.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave an interview regarding his life in Saudi Arabia.

CRISTIANO RONALDO:

“My expectations were somewhat different, frankly. I expected us to win one of the titles this year, but things are not going as well as we would like or expect. Sometimes we need patience, continuity and perseverance, and we will improve alot."

CRISTIANO on his future at Al-Nassr:
"Next year I am very optimistic and confident that things will change and we will go in the best way, so we have to believe in it and work for it."

CRISTIANO RONALDO:

"I am happy here, I want to continue here and I will continue here."

CRISTIANO:

"The Saudi league is good and competitive. There are good teams and Arab players are good too."

CRISTIANO:

"In Europe we trained in the morning, and here we train in the afternoon or in the evening, and when Ramadan starts, we train at ten o'clock in the evening. It was very odd."

CRISTIANO:

"I think I have helped many players to change their view of fitness, their lifestyle and their perception of football. You have to focus and at least be professional, and give your best."

How would you describe life in Saudi Arabia?

CRISTIANO:

"Very good, if you want to come here and have fun and learn about the culture and try the food, the Saudis prefer the nightlife which I think is very interesting and good."

CRISTIANO:

"The big players, big names or young players are all welcome. If this happens, the league will improve. Age is not an important thing. What is important is the competitive spirit of young players."

CRISTIANO:

My teammates certainly noticed my nature, my discipline & my work ethic. Playing football at the highest level for 20 years is not a coincidence. Genes are important, but there are other important factors as well. The difference is what you do to use those abilities."

CRISTIANO:

"I hope people will enjoy the matches and my performances and I hope I will win titles. Thank you for your hospitality, and I will try to do my best while I am here."
