Hey Hamburg, remember when we said we were applying for a grant that would help fund ten 6’x4’ fiberglass armadillos to be placed all around town and painted uniquely by our talented local artists?

Well…We had so much support from the public with this project idea & we have some good news to share! WE WON the $9,600 grant and we can’t wait to get this project rolling very soon! We are so appreciative of Arkansas Heritage and the opportunity that was given to us.

We hope this project brings even more people to our town as we celebrate the uniqueness of the armadillo & what it represents for Hamburg.

With the new tag, hopefully more will see this post. There are far more posts and pages on FB than anyone can read, so most see very little from various friends, groups and pages. I started Delta Current as a way for small rural communities around here to share news and information online in real time. Often things are over before a weekly paper prints them.

Even after eliminating certain things, I still do not have time to do what needs to be done with Delta Current. To be honest, I no longer have the desire to do it either. So, I hope enough see this that someone, or even better several people, might be interested in taking over this project.

I know first hand that when only one person is in charge of news, they can print false information without even asking for a comment from someone they don't like. So I hope a group of people with different interests, and experiences will work together to make sure local communities know what's happening, or have happened.

While it would be best to focus on community information and events, voters do need to know what's happening with their local governments. There's so much that never gets printed by papers, which make a huge amount of their profits from local government notices, and campaign ads. If a groups large enough took this on, I would hope they could keep to facts and keep biases out.

There's a web site that I'm willing to provide to this group, and I will help them set up an email list, so they can share information directly with as many people as possible. Facebook is not the best method to do this.

If anyone is interested, you don't have to reply publicly. Just send me a message to Delta Current. I will probably have to make similar posts regarding this for a while, until one or more show interest, so sorry about that.

While I think this would work best as a multi-person community service project, I am open to even setting it up as a for-profit business if necessary.

Thanks

SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans Available to Arkansas Small Businesses

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Small nonfarm businesses in six Arkansas counties and a neighboring county in Mississippi are now eligible to apply for low‑interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced Director Jeffrey Lusk of SBA’s Disaster Field Operations Center‑West. These loans offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by drought in the following primary counties that began Nov. 7.

Primary Arkansas primary county: Desha;
Neighboring Arkansas counties: Arkansas, Chicot, Drew, Lincoln and Phillips;

Neighboring Mississippi county: Bolivar.

“SBA eligibility covers both the economic impacts on businesses dependent on farmers and ranchers that have suffered agricultural production losses caused by the disaster and businesses directly impacted by the disaster,” Lusk said.

Small nonfarm businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million to help meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred.

“Eligibility for these loans is based on the financial impact of the disaster only and not on any actual property damage. These loans have an interest rate of 4 percent for businesses and 3.25 percent for private nonprofit organizations, a maximum term of 30 years and are available to small businesses and most private nonprofits without the financial ability to offset the adverse impact without hardship,” Lusk said.

Interest does not begin to accrue until 12 months from the date of the initial disaster loan disbursement. SBA disaster loan repayment begins 12 months from the date of the first disbursement.

By law, SBA makes Economic Injury Disaster Loans available when the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture designates an agricultural disaster. The Secretary declared this disaster on Nov. 13.

Businesses primarily engaged in farming or ranching are not eligible for SBA disaster assistance. Agricultural enterprises should contact the Farm Services Agency about the U.S. Department of Agriculture assistance made available by the Secretary’s declaration. However, nurseries are eligible for SBA disaster assistance in drought disasters.

Applicants may apply online, receive additional disaster assistance information and download applications at SBA.gov/disaster. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659‑2955 or email [email protected] for more information on SBA disaster assistance. For people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability, please dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services. Completed applications should be mailed to U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX 76155.

The deadline to apply for economic injury is July 15, 2024.
