South Asia Monitor A perspective on the region https://southasiamonitor.org/ South Asia is the region where one-fourth of the world’s population lives.

It is a melting pot of multiple ethnic, cultural and linguistic groupings with a long history of dynamic human interactions, territorial realignments, social and religious movements, cultural assimilations and ingrained economic exchanges. Though the region has been viewed, explained and explored through various perspectives, there has been a longstanding need to create a comprehensive resource ba

se on and for South Asia - not just for the eight countries that constitute it, but, more importantly, for the rest of the world which is increasingly drawn into its triumphs and travails. Until recently, there has not been a single comprehensive source that global policymakers can turn to for highly informed perspectives on South Asia. South Asia Monitor is a window to the region, the one-platform resouce of information, knowledge and debate on security, conflict management, diplomacy, culture and economy, among others, concerning the eight countries that comprise the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). South Asia Monitor is maintained and curated by SPS (www.spsindia.in)

While India will hope to repair broken relations with the US, this is a defining moment when we are likely to witness the designing of a strategically decisive foreign and security policy. The Act East policy will, certainly, grow stronger reflecting the reality of the Rising East.

India’s economic self-reliance is not about shutting the doors to the world. It is about standing firm during crises, reducing vulnerabilities, and becoming globally competitive. The philosophy of Atmanirbhar Bharat represents a pragmatic approach: be self-reliant in areas where dependence is dangerous, and globally integrated in sectors where India can lead.

India’s museums and heritage institutions are at a crossroads. The digital age offers incredible tools to preserve and promote culture, but it also demands clarity, intention, and collaboration. The future lies in building a community of professionals who understand both the value of tradition and the power of technology.

If you have ever felt the dopamine rush from a like or comment, or have scrolled past your bedtime, you are one of the millions entrenched in this system. According to recent studies, the average person spends two hours and 24 minutes on social media daily. The Sharif-Yunus meeting, albeit routine, acquires a sharper edge because both Pakistan and Bangladesh are at loggerheads with India. The pervasive sense right now is that New Delhi is diplomatically besieged even as Islamabad craftily navigates its way out of its staggering economic crises and perpetually fractious polity.

The Indian software and IT services giants have for long been accused of running body shops, a business fashioned out of what essentially is labour arbitrage turned into a fine art. The sector has consistently denied this, arguing that they have moved up the value chain and that they compete on quality, not price.

Bangladesh stands at a knife’s edge. Yunus’ Islamist-driven regime, cloaked in the language of reform, is orchestrating the most dangerous assault on the country’s security in decades. Its outcome will not remain confined to Dhaka. It will destabilize India, threaten the Gulf, embolden jihadists, and export terror into the West.

The popularity and the momentum of sports activities, especially the major sporting events, have played a significant role in healing the wounds of a region that has witnessed years of chaos and disturbance. Through the excitement of sports, the joy of victories, and the sense of unity they create, sports have become more than just games; they are a source of hope, resilience, and social inclusion.
