* WHAT...Mixed precipitation and blowing snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations up to a few hundredths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 55 mph.
* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

* WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow possible. There is a 60 percent chance of at least 6 inches of snow, with a low chance of exceeding 8 inches. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of north central North Dakota and the James River Valley.

* WHEN...From 3 PM CST this afternoon through Thursday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for western North Dakota where there is a medium chance for a glaze of ice, while the highest snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected across north central North Dakota. Areas of fog are possible across central and eastern North Dakota as well. Stay weather aware!

The potential for severe weather this evening has increased across parts of south central North Dakota. The orange shaded area (level 3 out of 5) has the highest potential for severe thunderstorms with hail up to the size of tennis balls, damaging winds up to 70 mph, and a tornado or two possible. Storm initiation still appears to occur around 6:00 PM CT, depending on forecast model. Stay weather aware this evening!

Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms remain possible across a small portion of western North Dakota, and all of central and eastern North Dakota late this afternoon through tonight. Primary initiation appears to be between 4-6 PM CT. The main hazards over central North Dakota will be hail up to the size of tennis balls and damaging winds up to 70 mph. A tornado or two is also possible. Be sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The NOAA NWS Storm Prediction Center has upgraded western North Dakota, eastern Montana and northern South Dakota to an enhanced risk for severe weather tonight.
