On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Carousel posts!

Friends, if you’re going to post photos or graphics, make sure there are a few of them and put them into a carousel post. Carousel posts have always been the highest performing post on Instagram before Reels hit the scene, and they still arrive at a close second.

Want to know why? If someone sees your carousel post, but doesn’t swipe through the images, Instagram will continue to put this post in their feed until they look through each and every image. That means 2, 3, 4 or more times the exposure on a single post!

But don’t just throw a bunch of photos up there and hope for the best. While casual photo dumps are having a moment, the best way to post is to hold your viewer’s attention. Try to tell a story along the images so that people will want to swipe through to see what happens.

And if you can mix up graphics and images, even better. Each one will stand out from the last, preventing a monotonous feel to your post.

We recently did an Instagram audit for one of our new clients, and we realized that our top recommendations for their account were twelve great tips anyone could use.

So welcome to “12 Days of Christmas: The Top End-Of-Year Tips” from the humu media team!

Tip One:

Post consistently. And don’t post less than five times a week. There are so many recommendations out there that change depending on which social platform you’re using, and we could (and will in the future) get more specific, but a good rule of thumb is to try to post at least five days a week. Every day would be best, but posting at least five days a week will begin to build your audience.

Good things to keep in mind:

* Quality over quantity. Don’t post just to post, but do your best to post five times a week. Have some posts on standby in your drafts, just in case you don’t have enough time (or brain space) to post each day.
* Check your social media account’s insights to see when your customers are online. You may have time to post at 9 am, but if no one is online, you’ll be posting into a vacuum. That’s where scheduling tools can be helpful: there are many great free ones, like Facebook’s Creator Studio and Later, that will help you find the best day and time to post.
