In Old Fort Dodge The early days of Fort Dodge and the surrounding area Fort Dodge began as a military post in 1850. He platted the land in 1854.

The post was abandoned by 1853, but the land was sold to speculators, including Major William Williams. in 1855, a federal land office was established in Fort Dodge. The first newspaper, The Sentinel, was established in 1956. In Old Fort Dodge features articles published in the early days of the town, taken from early newspaper articles and published on the day and month they were originally published.
