Electricity companies have the obligation to grow in size and finances to satisfy their investors and obtain positive profitability. To achieve this, they must increase their size and sell more energy. However, in their quest for growth, power companies often become lazy and wasteful, passing increased operating costs onto their customers. In addition, they push for more energy to be used, encouraging lower efficiency on the part of consumers, and demanding less diversity of energy sources. These practices are carried out through the influence of the electric company in laws, advertising and propaganda. Companies sometimes grow by purchasing smaller electric companies, when they cannot expand into newly developed areas; where another electric company or electric cooperative already exists.

07 Electric company abusive powers. Living Off the Grid in the City Podcast. It is common for local electric companies to be monopolies and have influence over public utility commission members. This allows them to have almost absolute control over the electricity supply and affect the economy of a wide area. Although you don't have many options to change providers, the company can disconnect you if you don't pay. Additionally, non-payment can lead to threatening notices from your landlord, city, county or state and even eviction. The power company often behaves arrogantly and abusively, knowing that customers have nowhere to turn. In addition, they have a large and well-paid staff, and have considerable economic, social and political support. They have managed to establish close relationships with the officials in charge of regulating their performance. In short, power companies have excessive power over communities and customers.

Solar house in Tellus Museum (Cartersville GA) is a fraud! I visited this solar house in 2012 and was amazed and encouraged to see a display of the possibility to have a working home running entirely on solar. The home was a modest and low cost built, it was more like a fancy manufactured home or trailer home. It was said to have cost $250,000 to build. The home had a set of very expensive and beefy German made batteries to run the very modestly sized home with all LED lights, very efficient electronics and appliances. I was ensured at the time that the home ran on 100% solar by the tour guides. Fast forward to 2019 and 2023 and the off grid solar house has been replaced with a grid-tied very expensive steel construction home. I guess it may cost from $400 and up right now to build such house plus land value. It is not affordable, and it is not 100% solar. This house is truly a farce and a fraud. It was taken back in time and connected to the utility. Perhaps the owners were pressured by the power company or “someone” in the Tellus museum leadership did not want to spread the idea of off grid homes. Shame on Tellus museum, shame on Cartersville, and shame on backward Georgia!
