Issue no.7 of Attention, Detective Work, guest edited by Megan Eardley is out now! This issue addresses how contemporary architects and spatial practitioners have turned to scientific and literary ideas about detection to engage with social, economic, and political forces that operate at unhuman scales and speeds. Over the course of this issue, Megan Eardley explores these questions with architects, political and aesthetic theorists, artists, and writers who study and make use of architecture in their practices: Eyal Weizman, Janet Kerbel, Laura E. Hall, Caryn Dolley, and Bryan Finoki. See bio for a direct link to the issue on the Architecture Exchange website. Or subscribe to Attention as a podcast in your favored podcast app.

After much anticipation, the latest Issue of Attention. is out now! Issue no.6, Community is a Practice, guest-edited by Anna Goodman of Portland State University, addresses the rich and complex history of community design in the United States in the 1960s.

https://architecture.exchange/attention-issues/community-is-a-practice/

In a series of four episodes that use interviews, found audio, oral histories, and historical analysis, Anna Goodman documents how architects have engaged communities in the past.

Episode 1, Community Design as a Process, explains how contemporary architects in the United States often pursue community-engaged work through the design of processes.

Episode 2, Karl Linn and the Idea of Neighborhood Commons, describes a shift in the way architects in the United States viewed community starting in the early 1960s.

Episode 3, Ecological Community at People’s Park, explores how a focus on the process of design over its products located community design at the intersection of anti-institutional activism and other social movements.

Episode 4, Carl Anthony, Race and Environmentalism, describes the life and work of the architect and environmental justice advocate Carl Anthony.
