Founder & CEO Sherry Freeman, aka “Buttercup”
ButterCup Records was founded in August 2009, when Founder & CEO Sherry Freeman took her love of music and confidence in strategic sales and marketing to the next level. Like the beautiful, sweet flower it’s named after, ButterCup Records invigorates the senses – showcasing the great original
tunes of Philadelphia’s singing songwriting sensation, Kareem. I just felt like I wanted to do something to help this talented artist to get his music out to the world.”
Thus, the birth of ButterCup Records. “I felt it would be a shame for his music to be just for my ears and enjoyment -- to take his gift to the grave without other people having a chance to experience it and hear it.”
With ButterCup Records now promoting his talents, Kareem’s music continues to reach the masses. His first CD on the label, Soul Ridin’ was very well-received. Kareem’s music received airplay on Internet radio SRRocks.com and also on Delaware’s terrestrial station WSTW 93.7FM. He is building followers on his home page www.IAmKareem.com and through Twitter, MySpace and Facebook profiles. Expanding its Repertoire of Artists
While ButterCup Records may have been born of necessity – to give Kareem a platform to share his music -- Freeman has big plans for the label and is open to signing new artists in the area.
“I realize that I have a lot of contacts now and that one of my gifts and talents is that if someone tells me they want to do something, I can make it happen. So, I realize that if I can do it for Kareem, I know that I could help other artists – local, Philly artists,” says Freeman confidently.
“Maybe some won’t have a lot of money, but will have talent and can get to the next level. I can create a formula for success to take their music from ideas to manifesting it to the next level – getting them into the studio, finding local musicians to help them record the song and creating a final product. ButterCup Records can help them get their tunes to iTunes, Amazon and on YouTube. That’s what I’ve been able to do with Kareem -- music copyrighting, getting it on the radio, hiring outside PR/marketing people, setting up photo shoots and so much more.”
As to the kind of music that ButterCup will represent, she says, “We’re open and will embrace any talent and any genre. Our specialty is R & B and soul, but we love all kinds of music.”
