Harriet Biddick’s horse A Touch Imperious (known in the stable as Henry) will be officially retired from competition, after a impressive career that saw him finish runner-up in the Derby five times, with a further two third placings. Together, Harriet and A Touch Imperious have won nearly £117,000 in prize money from this class alone.

“A Touch Imperious may not have won the Al Shira’aa Derby, but he is one of the most consistent horses in the history of the class,” said Hickstead Director Lizzie Bunn. “We are really sad to see his remarkable career draw to a close, but we’re touched that Harriet has chosen the All England Jumping Course – the scene of so many of his best moments – as the location for his retirement ceremony.”

Harriet had been hoping to have a final crack at winning the Al Shira’aa Derby, after coming second in 2022. A minor injury ruled him out of last year’s contest, and this year she felt he wasn’t quite back to full fitness.

“He is 20 now, and he owes us nothing,” said Harriet. “He’s got a fantastic record in the class, and I want to keep it that way. He’s jumped some nice clears recently and has been feeling good, but I didn’t want to jump him in the Derby unless he felt one thousand percent. I know it’s going to be emotional, but it’s a real honour to be able to retire him at Hickstead, it’s like home to him.”

One of the most consistent horses in the history of the Al Shira'aa Derby is to be retired this Sunday at Hickstead, in what is bound to be an emotional ceremony

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: The double guilt factor

34 year old leading showjumper and Pro-Rider Academy client, Harriet Biddick, has taken two breaks from competing to have children and is now back riding again. She is married to point to point rider and trainer, Will.

Showjumping is often quoted as one of the few sports where women and men compete on a level playing field. We asked Harriet how true she thinks this is and how she has managed to combine running her business producing, competing horses as well as coaching alongside bringing up the kids.

Tap bit.ly/437d5wu to find out what she said…..

📸 (The All England Jumping Course, Hickstead)
The Hickstead Derby meeting is one of Harriet's favourite show's, she has an astounding record at the All England Jumping Course and has been runner up an incredible five times in the world famous Hickstead Derby. In 2022 she added to her tally of wins with another victory in the British Speed Derby while aiming to add a fourth win in 2023 she created a viral sensation on board Silver Lift when he famously lost his bridle.

A look back at last weekend's Premier League Dressage. Somerford Park basked in beautiful sunshine as British Dressage elite entertained us with a full schedule of top sporting action

A rare opportunity to chat to Carl Hester who took top honours in Saturday's Grand Prix with win on board Fame and 2nd spot with En Vogue.

Watch my video and find out Carl's thoughts on both these horses being serious contenders for Paris 2024.....and the importance of rider fitness.
