Two Geniuses - One Exhibition

Spain has given us some of the most incredible artists of the 20th century, and two of the greatest among them were definitely Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro.

Recently, the Picasso Museum and the Joan Miro Foundation collaborated on a special exhibition dedicated to these two iconic artists and their friendship with Barcelona. The exhibition is part of the events of the Picasso Celebration 1973-2023, which includes a total of 50 exhibitions dedicated to Picasso that will take place around the world between the autumn of 2022 and the spring of 2024.

The exhibition features over 250 works of art, some of which are from private collections from around the world, showcasing the significant impact that these artists have had on the art world.

It's interesting to note that Salvador Dali, who is often considered the number one artist of Spain, saw himself as third among the greats and considered Picasso and Miro to be his older friends and godfathers in the art world. The exhibition shows respect to the friendship between the two artists and exhibits their works side by side.

The exhibition will be open until February of next year, and both museum venues are worth visiting in addition to their permanent collections.

The Twelfth Edition of the Market of Markets Festival

One of the best ways to experience the city, become whole for a moment, understand and look at it through the eyes of local residents and, most importantly, taste it literally, is to go to one of Barcelona's markets.

As is the case with the obligatory visit to the most popular street, La Rambla, the tourist trail does not become overgrown to the La Boqueria market. Not the biggest, but one of the oldest in Europe. The first mentions date back to the 13th century, when several butchers agreed among themselves and decided to sell meat in one place, next to the gates of the old city.

But despite its age, La Boqueria remains a place of attraction for both local gourmets who come to the opening for the freshest fish, and curious tourists who come here to admire the bright stalls and fill Instagram with photos with a colorful assortment of fruits, berries and sweets. Those who come just to look, to put it mildly, upset the sellers, which forces them to unite in the intention of limiting free access to the market. Therefore, until this happens, do not deny yourself the pleasure of buying something in a legendary place, even if it is a nice thing from the official souvenir shop. Yes, the market has its own branded merchandise: T-shirts, aprons, mugs and everything that you can bring as a gift or keep as a souvenir.

The market keeps up with the times and has organized online delivery of products for its customers, but, as they say, it’s better to see this beauty in person once than to go online a hundred times.

La Boqueria could rightfully be called the market of markets, if this pretentious name had not been taken by the annual gastronomic festival.

Mercat de mercats is a real event in the life of gourmets; it attracts representatives of almost 40 markets in Barcelona, chefs of the best restaurants, owners of cheese factories and managers of wineries. Accordingly, you and I will be presented with the freshest organic products, meat, fish, delicious sausages and cheeses; the most appetizing dishes will be prepared before our eyes, which can be tasted with all sorts of wines!

Obviously, people come here not only for groceries and food cooked on the grill or barbecue, cooking shows, master classes, presentations and music programs. Visiting this festival, like any individual market, is primarily about communication. Here friends, acquaintances, neighbors meet, and while talking they can drink a couple of glasses of beer while enjoying stewed lamb.

Three whole days of pleasure for the eyes and stomach!

Come in whole groups, families, feel free to take children, for whom the organizers have prepared separate entertainment and play areas.

WHEN: October 20 and 21 from 11.00 to 22.00, and October 22 from 11.00 to 21.00.

WHERE: Plaça de Catalunya

HOW MUCH: Free entrance

For sure Barcelona is an extraordinary destination for families with kids. And when visiting Barcelona for sightseeing, ensure your precious children are not left wanting for excitement. Amidst the awe-inspiring architectural marvels and captivating art collections of the city, there is a different kind of thrill.

Spanning an impressive 4,000 square meters, FunBox stands as the world's largest inflatable park! Here, children can unleash their boundless energy on an array of exhilarating attractions.

From scaling the ninja wall to conquering the marshmallow mountain, from bouncing on the gumball gallop to navigating obstacle courses, there's an abundance of adventures awaiting young explorers. And for those who seek the ultimate rush, a heart-pounding 7-meter toboggan slide promises an unforgettable ride.

Yet, this place doesn't stop at pure exhilaration. It seamlessly weaves together 10 distinct entertainment zones and a well-appointed food court, ensuring a well-rounded experience for families. So, whether it's a breakneck dash through inflatable obstacles or a moment of respite over delicious fare, Funbox offers a day of excitement and enjoyment for all.

Moreover, Funbox isn't just a place of play; it's also a beacon of support for a local charity dedicated to safeguarding children in foster care. This meaningful endeavor stems from the personal experiences of its founder, Antonio Nieves, who himself grew up alongside nine younger siblings within the foster care system.

Don’t miss a remarkable blend of joy, purpose, and community spirit, all under one inflatable roof.

It’s hard to imagine a Barcelonan who doesn’t start the day with fresh baked goods. In the morning, queues line up at coffee shops and bakeries to have breakfast on the spot or take home napoletanas, ensaimadas and croissants with or without all sorts of fillings.

And the news that the best croissant in Spain is baked in Barcelona once again makes its residents proud.

Today it became known that the Prat “Can Carriel” bakery won the competition for the best croissant in the country. The winner, Gil Prat i Parcet is the custodian of the family recipes of the confectionery house, which has been baking the best products for over a hundred years. By the way this is not the first time his butter croissant has won an award in such competitions.

Well, a little clarification, the place Roda De Ter, where the pastry shop is located, is about two hours from Barcelona. If you're nearby, please send our warmest congratulations to the owner of the establishment!

Oktoberfest is coming to Barcelona!

Surely, even those of us who are indifferent to beer know about the existence of the legendary Bavarian festival Oktoberfest.
But not even all residents of Barcelona are aware that this event is being held in the capital of Catalonia for the 10th time.

Therefore, we are pleased to inform you that a holiday in the best German traditions starts on October 4! The opening ceremony of the first beer keg, as well as the next 12 days of the festival, will take place at Plaza Universo at Fira Barcelona Monjuïc, next to Plaza España.

If you are a true fan of Bavarian culture, you probably have national clothes in your wardrobe. Dress up, come to the opening and participate in the costume contest! It's quite possible that you will become the best Dirndl girl or the best Lederhosen guy! If you win, you will receive a VIP ticket for 8 people!

The organizers advise booking tables in advance, because despite the spacious territory of the festival, the number of people wishing to try Bavarian sausages, pork knuckles, pretzels and, of course, the famous Paulaner beer may exceed the number of available seats.

On weekdays, admission to the festival is free. From 17.00 on Fridays and weekends you will need to pay 5 € per person.

Knowing the love of Barcelona residents for dogs, the organizers ask your four-legged friends to refrain from attending the festival. Unless they are guide dogs.

Barcelona has always been home to many great painters and sculptors, whose immortal legacy continues to fascinate art lovers and inspire new talents over the years, revealing bright and extraordinary names.

Among the new generation of Catalan artists, it would be wrong to overlook Xavi Muñoz, who was born in Barcelona in 1975.

The range of his impact on our emotional state is wide: these include bronze sculptures, glass compositions, paintings, installations and street art objects.

He has participated in many international exhibitions and his works are currently represented in collections such as Coca-Cola, DKV Seguros, Macam Libano Museum, HOTUSA, Design Space (Arab Emirates), Porreres Museum (Mallorca), MAVA Glass Art Museum (Madrid) and private collections.

Xavi Muñoz's new exhibition Domestic Paradise is being held at Guntrian Gallery and will run untill October 14th.
