I am approaching three years since I removed alcohol from my life. Every once in a while, I get this little nagging in my ear that says, “Hey maybe just have one, maybe this time you can control your drinking” and then luckily I’m always presented with the biggest reminder not to!

Last night my daughter had her friends over and she was dancing around like a wild woman! Her friend said “Could you imagine if she ever had a drink? She would be insane.” My daughter replied with, “I don’t ever want to drink because, no offense Mom, I don’t ever want to act like you acted” Instead of taking offense, I felt a huge sense of pride! My main catalyst for stopping was that girl right there. The way she looked at me when I could barely remember our conversations from the night before and the questions she asked about my behavior the next day. She was the reason I woke up that day and decided enough was enough. Thankfully conversations like that continue to be my gentle reminder that I am making the right decision! ☀️☀️-Sandy

What do your teens use that works for their acne? The dermatologist has given us a medicated wash and cream that I feel is keeping it at bay, but not actually clearing anything. What do you use that you find works, I’m looking for either prescriptions or over-the-counter suggestions. We are not at Accutane level, but I was on it as a teenager. My husband and I both suffered from acne as teens so I’m trying to get ahead of it before it gets worse. Thank you so much for any help! (of course now that I’ve googled this a few times I’m getting ads all over my Instagram and FB and I don’t want to waste my money on something that doesn’t work!) -Sandy

Today’s Coffee Thoughts:
Reason #128 I truly FEEL my age. At 6:30am my kids no longer need me in the morning. They pick out their own clothes and can certainly brush their teeth without mom hovering over. The now teens sort of grunt goodbye as they walk out the door and I happily sit in my reading chair playing Wordle & Connections. I eagerly await this quiet time each morning as if it’s the highlight of my day (because let’s be honest…IT IS!!) Last night in the waiting room of the doctors another patient and I were excitedly answering Jeopardy questions and waiting for Wheel of Fortune. Laughing with one another that this is what we do every night at home. I had a few more questions than I normally do at the doctor. Suddenly, my age giving way to worries I’d never had in my young mothering days. Realizing that the craziness of those days never left time for me to worry about me. Now in the days of less hands on mothering I’m realizing time truly did fly by. I don’t even recall my 30’s!! 😳 When my mom was 44 I felt like she was ancient (sorry mom!) and yet here I am, reading glasses and all, just trying to solve today’s Wordle. Trying to navigate this new age of motherhood and more importantly this new age of ME! Cheers to us all, may we find ways to age with good health and grace!- Sandy ☀️

First, can anyone recommend some places in NJ to go hiking? Second, I will never say no to this text on the weekend! I will cancel my plans and finish the rest of my errands another day. As we near the end of his freshman year I realize there may only be three years left that he will live with us full-time. He’s quiet, reserved and doesn’t have a lot to say, but these hikes are what keep our bond strong. Today as we neared the end of the trail we passed an older mother and her adult son. We looked at each other and both smiled. It doesn’t matter when you start it just matters that you get there! Next weekend let the groceries and laundry wait and get outside, I promise you won’t regret it! -Sandy ☀️💙

A clear sky and clearheaded Wednesday morning is so much more beautiful than I can put into words. I’m hoping this picture can capture it. I work from home on Wednesdays and during the years I was drinking Tuesday nights became my private binges. I would have the “normal” glass of wine with dinner (because obviously everyone drinks wine on a Tuesday night) or so I told myself! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Then after everyone went to bed I would stay awake watching all of my shows and the drinks somehow kept pouring themselves. I never felt like I was drinking alone because I would reach out to other friends I knew might be up. I would be texting and sending memes somehow justifying in my head that drinking alone in my living room on a Tuesday night was definitely not a problem! Then the sunrise would come so quickly those Wednesday mornings. In a fog I would find myself sometimes still in the living room or worse not even remembering how I got upstairs to bed. I would hold myself together just long enough to get everybody off to school and those work from home days I was nursing the worst midweek hangovers. Trying to be productive and promising myself that next Tuesday night would be different. A drinking problem doesn’t just happen out of the blue. It’s a slow and steady progression of one too many nights breaking a promise you can no longer keep. It’s hard to share how those last two years of my drinking became so out of control. In fact, it’s even a little embarrassing. Yet in this reflection of those days, that is where I find the most peace. Being on the other side of things is truly the most beautiful place to be! I’ve been a little MIA. I’ve been busy trying to squeeze in these small moments. Life is SO busy. Some days it feels like groundhog day. Coffee, Pack Lunches, Work, Kid Activities, Dinner, Sleep, Repeat….day in and day out. Sometimes it doesn’t even feel like there’s time to breathe let alone appreciate these small moments. If you’re looking for a fun night out, definitely check out Choppers Hatchet House! This was our second time and it was a blast! It’s so well organized and the staff are amazing. Our coach Don made the night even better with his expertise and humor! It’s a byob for food and drink and a great way to mix and mingle with friends. I promise you’ll have a great time! -Sandy🪓☀️

It wasn’t a perfect day. It actually wasn’t even that exciting. It was just a Thursday. Got the kids to school, bickered a little with the husband, went to work, sent the emails, answered the phone calls, came home, cooked the dinner, but most importantly made it one more day without a drink! As long as I get to enjoy this sunset still sober I know I won the day! For anyone who needs to hear it…keep on keeping on! -Sandy ☀️
