Bucketfull Of Brains Rock'n'Roll - Pop - Psych - Garage - Punk - R'n'B - Country - Folk Established 1979 Bucketfull Of Brains is a record label and was a magazine.

The magazine was founded in 1979 by Nigel Cross. It published between 1979 and 2015 under a series of editorial teams; notably under Jon Storey from 1984 to 1995, Joe Presedo, Joss Hutton, Nick West and Terry Hermon from 1996 to 1999, and Nick and Terry following that. It covered a wide-range of musics; an erstwhile sub-title listed "rock, garage, psych, folk-rock, pop, rock’n’roll”, and to that c

ould be added country, soul and glam and probably more. Throughout its life it retained an affection for songs with guitars and thus bands like the Barracudas, the Flamin’ Groovies, the Dream Syndicate, the Long Ryders and the Green Pajamas held a special place in its affections. The magazine was well known for its cover-mounted flexidiscs and 45”s and then latterly CD compilations. Bucketfull Of Brains Records started in 2010; its current roster includes Richard Davies & The Dissidents, Trent Miller, and The Snakes. The most recent release is Human Traffic from Richard Davies & The Dissidents (BOB2001). Post-pandemic the label has been in a period of transition. As of June 2024 we are anticipating releases from Richard Davies & The Dissidents, Trent Miller, and others over the next few months. Thanks to David Franklin and Dancing About Architecture for a cool review of High Times & Misdemeanours

"Richard and his sonic gang sound like that band that opened for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers... They sound like that song you never catch the name of on the classic music station. They do all of that whilst striding confidently into a bright musical future."

People often get rock and its older, wiser sibling, rock ‘n’ roll, mixed up. If the rock genre seems to be an overly earnest, deadly serious onslaught of big riffs (often played by people in big shorts) and complicated guitar work (often played by people with equally complicated hair), then rock...

"Before Americana became the catch-all term for rootsy authenticity, The Snakes were carving out their own corner of the British alt-country landscape with their debut album "Songs from the Satellites." Released in 2006 on Holiday Disaster Records, this CD-only release would prove to be a watershed moment for a band that had already caught the ear of tastemakers through their standout track "I'll Be Around" on What's Cookin''s influential compilation series...."

Richard Davies & the Dissidents in The Big Takeover Magazine. Thanks Dave Franklin & Jack Rabid

It’s an apt title for a band that hasn’t put anything out for a few years. A hint at more music to come? A sonic call to arms? A statement of intent? It doesn’t really matter. All that matters is that they are back…and back with a vengeance.

News from Sid Griffin; a new solo album and a solo launch show; The Long Ryders gigs to follow in October and more beyond

Friends and , The big, big news is Sid Griffin finally has a new solo album out, his first in a decade. It is titled The Journey From Grape To Raisin and is released Friday Sept. 27 on Label 51 Recordings.

The album was recorded in Nashville, Music City USA, using Sid’s dear friend and producer Thomm Jutz. Sid decided it would be nice “to record an album where no one had an accent” so that meant his native Kentucky or nearby Tennessee and Tennessee won the coin toss.

Old friends Mark Fain (Chris Hillman, Kentucky Thunder) and Tammy Rogers (the Steel Drivers) played on the album as did the cream of Nashville session pickers. Though the songs were written and played live long before the album was cut, the sessions themselves lasted less than a week.

A link for pre-ordering your copy of The Journey From Grape To Raisin is below, and we know you will dig this platter as every song on it was played live on the recent Peter Case tour earlier this year with both Sid and his songs, battle hardened and ready to go!

Next up is a tour with The Long Ryders in October, dates with The Coal Porters AND solo support shows with The Hanging Stars in November and, we hope, solo dates to support this new album in 2024.

Love to each of you and El Squid Hombre hopes to see you at a concert this autumn! Take care.
