While this isn't edible, it is memorable;
Sibley's Piggy Bank Shop; a tiny store with a kid-size door. Kids could pick out a gift for parents and nothing was more than $2 so it wouldn't break your piggy bank. Helpful sales ladies guided shoppers to things your mom or dad were sure to love.
Here's the telephone tool I chose for my mom. Magnifying glass for tiny print in those massive phone books, a flat round k**b that fit the finger holes of a rotary dial phone all made elegant with filagree and mother of pearl inlay. All the phone numbers had an "exchange" ours was Osborne-1. Later OS1, finally 671. I had friends in Ludlow, LU6, 586 and Dudley, DU, 381.

Hi Friends!

Stop by the Irondequoit Public Library this Saturday December 9th for Local Author day. I will be in one of the Meeting Rooms. I'm excited to share space with other authors of Rochester-focused books like Debi Bower author of Day Trips Around Rochester, NY. Along with copies of Rochester Eats, I'll also have display cases of some vintage items from Rochester restaurant history! This book makes a great gift for out of town friends & family who want to remember the classic days of dining out in Rochester!

So excited to have this local book in stock for the holiday season!

Rochester Eats was written by former Democrat and Chronicle restaurant critic Karen Deyle Miller ! The book was published in 2007, but since it is a look back at Rochester area favorite restaurants it’s still a nostalgic, wonderful gift for foodies and area history lovers!

We were lucky enough for Karen to walk by our store and she hasn’t had a place for these books in a while, so it’s now available at our store for a new group to enjoy this holiday season!

The book includes history, photos, memories, recipes and more!

An old regional favorite has a new cookbook! The Rochester Eats launch party was held atop the the First Federal building in the space once occupied by the Changing Scene. Restaurant owners brought some of their classic dishes. Steve Wayne of The Holloway Housebrought loaves of their Sally Lunn Bread.

Magg's was an old-fashioned ice cream parlor near the corner of East Avenue and Winton. At this time of year, their ice cream turkeys were a popular dessert treat.

A frequently mentioned favorite are the Chinese Marble Cookies from Sibley's. Last year I posted a recipe for them, but today I actually found some for sale at another Rochester classic food favorite, Schutts Apple Mill !
